Job Summary
The Instructional Designer is responsible for executing the learning strategy for the Civil Construction Field Solutions division, globally. This position supports our customers, channel, and internal teams. This includes the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of learning solutions. This position develops materials that create exceptional learning experiences with an emphasis on learning transfer. This role designs and develops for various training delivery methods with focus on interactive and engaging online materials, as well as creative application/practice opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Applies modern instructional strategies to drive behavioral outcomes and high engagement. Leads and participates in all phases of the ADDIE process – Analysis; Design; Development; Implementation; Evaluation. Applies the 6Ds Learning Transfer principles to determine organizational training needs.
Designs the most effective instructional method, media, presentation style, and develops solutions that drive learning transfer.
Designs and develops learning plans and training materials for a variety of competency levels.
Ensures continuous improvement by conducting evaluations and assessment measurements of learning programs. May include distributor evaluations, ride-alongs, and other observations.
Develops innovative training programs that include building technical, product, solutions, influence, 3rd-party relationship, and other business proficiencies.
Effectively partners with and leverages other Learning Organizations across Trimble to create full curriculum effectiveness.
Designs effective technical training programs, including onboarding, train-the-trainer, new product launches, and existing product solutions.
Designs and develops training materials for ease of localization.
May act as a facilitator to deliver training programs.
Manages workload responsibly and meets project goals and deadlines. Provides project management and leadership for course development and maintenance projects, ensuring timeline and quality requirements are met; communicates project timelines, statuses, and action items to stakeholders.
May evaluate and recommend off-the-shelf/vendor training programs, training software, and other systems used to drive learning transfer.
Fully utilizes Trimble’s Learning Management System in the delivery and tracking of learning solutions.
Keeps abreast of industry trends, both within our businesses and within the learning field.
Redesigns existing programs with improvements to media and strategy; may also include redesigning for new/alternative delivery formats, including mobile delivery.
Produces a variety of instructional media elements including graphics, illustrations, photographs, animation, text, video, and/or sound used to enhance the online and instructor-led content.
Experience, Education & Skills
Proven experience with each phase of the ADDIE process; successful application of learning transfer principles, concepts, and tools.
Demonstrated experience conducting needs assessments and designing and implementing training programs, with an emphasis on eLearning.
Experience working in a global, matrixed company; and the ability to collaborate and partner with a variety of constituencies (SME’s, Product Managers; etc.) to deliver effective results.
Experience developing learning solutions deployed in the Docebo LMS is a plus.
Experience developing mobile learning solutions is a plus.
Experience in multimedia development and production, preferably in a corporate setting, highly desirable.
Experience in creating animations and interactive elements for e-Learning courseware in animation software is highly desirable.
Experience in recording/editing audio, video, and digital photographs for e-Learning courseware and other media formats is highly desirable.
Experience with equipment including cameras and lighting and recording tools is highly desirable.
Experience using Trimble solutions in a workplace is highly desirable.
Acts as a consultant using influence and expert knowledge to drive learning transfer, performance improvement, and business outcomes/results.
Strong technical writing and grammatical skills; ability to simplify complex topics and write concisely in an active voice.
Strong conceptual thinking; ability to take raw content and create designs that support delivering an engaging learning experience.
Applies planning and organizational skills to establish an effective course of action.
Proven ability to gain acceptance for ideas from internal partners through influence.
Proficient with Google Apps for office productivity: Mail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Chat, Meet, Sheets, Sites, Slides, Groups, Forms, Lucid charts, etc.
Knowledge and use of relevant design and media development tools such as: Camtasia, Articulate Storyline, Articulate Presenter, Articulate Engage, Articulate Quizmaker, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Animate, Adobe Dreamweaver, Sony SoundForge, Actionscript, Javascript and/or HTML5.
Strong verbal, writing and listening skills, analytical and problem solving skills and creative and design skills are preferred.
Working knowledge of media principles, including an understanding of the uses and advantages/disadvantages of different media channels.
Bachelor’s degree in Education or Engineering or other technology field; Construction Management; Business Administration; Training and Development; Instructional Design; or related field or equivalent experiences.
Minimum 5+ years of relevant instructional design experience.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as required.
Travel is estimated at 10% of working time.
Performance Success Criteria
Effective design and delivery of an integrated training curriculum of relevant courses, programs, and tools for the Sales and Distribution network of the Civil Construction Field Services or CCFS business.
Creation and implementation of a training curriculum that enables the effective execution of the CCFS go-to-market strategy.
