As a Senior Finance Business Partner, you will primarily be partnering our Line Operations function, within the Customer Operations Directorate.

Line Operations is one part of the team that keeps London moving safely and sustainably, serving our customers, and helping them to get around the network and the city every day. We are the face of London Underground at the front of our trains, and behind the scenes we are managing the smooth running of our services from station control rooms and train depots.

The role requires a team player who can work across remits, manage extensive stakeholder groups and lead on the value agenda. The role will require strong commercial, planning, analytical and problem-solving skills combined with experience of developing strong business partnering relationships and delivering and supporting transformation.

You will be a trusted and influential member to the business partner leadership team, shaping strategic and operational decision making by providing insight, challenge and advice, ensuring we deliver on our financial commitments and balancing operational requirements.

Key Accountabilities

• Leads and develops effective business partner relationships with the client directorate at all levels. Ensures that Senior Managers have an integrated view of financial performance, with early warning on significant changes in expected performance/costs/income along with clear corrective actions.
• Manages preparation of the business plan, budget and the maintenance of the forecast and with focus on associated risk and opportunities.
• Formulate plans to maximise financial and business performance (including maximising revenue and efficiencies delivery) through the provision of high-quality performance information and effective business partnering and stakeholder engagement.
• Supports and challenges Sponsors, Directors and Senior Managers using investment and project appraisal techniques and models to support effective decision making on project and investments proposals.
• Ensures the validity of all information with a financial consequence originating from the partner business function; from the underlying accounting transactions captured in Business Services Function to information presented to internal boards and committees or into the public domain
• Manages the capability and drives the development of the Finance Business Partnering team and assist in developing training for non-finance managers and budget holders to improve commercial and financial skills.
• To provide inspirational leadership to achieve behavioural changes and to create a “can do” culture across the directorate.

• Experience of building strong relationships and managing complex stakeholder relationships across the business. Confident in and having the gravitas to partner with the business as a credible finance professional.
• Experience of building on and leveraging resources/networks across the business to achieve business objectives.
• Demonstrable working knowledge of investment appraisal tools and methodologies and their application to a complex range of activities.

Experience

• Must have demonstrable experience of managing and developing high performing finance teams.
• Experience in managing delivery of key management accounting services to time, budget and quality.
• Extensive experience working in a business environment with senior management with demonstrable skills in challenging and collaborating with this type of stakeholder.
• Experience of integrated ERP accounting platforms (SAP) able to develop data strategies to enable effective reporting, planning and financial management and control.
• Demonstrable experience of driving significant value out of efficiencies and leading on savings programmes which may be outside of their span of control.
