Salary £50k – £57k
Location London
Contract Type TfL
Overview of project/role
Transport for London (TfL) plays a key role in shaping what life is like in London. Our transport infrastructure and public transport network is admired around the world. We are helping to shape London for the future – making it one of the best cities to live, work and visit.
In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic we are committed to supporting London’s recovery, safely and sustainably, and to gradually welcoming our customers back to the network over the coming weeks and months. To meet the needs of our customers, now and for the future, we’re providing the modern and affordable transport network London needs.
Our multi-billion pound programme supports our goals to make our services more reliable, frequent and accessible and includes introducing new trains, rebuilding some of the busiest stations, and investing in congestion and air quality initiatives on our roads through our healthy streets approach.
To continue our drive to efficiency, we’re making big changes at TfL. Our finance function is evolving to ensure a sharp focus on TfL’s core business priorities. We’re doing this by building a new division that acts as the ‘commercial brain’ to the business integrating finance, procurement and supply chain to provide stronger strategic and commercial excellence across our business.
About the role
The Corporate Finance Analyst (Investments & Derivatives) will join the treasury team in delivering TfL’s investment and risk management strategies. As you progress you will act as primary dealer for the cash investments portfolio worth over £1bn, executing high value money market transactions (including commercial paper, repos, certificates of deposit, money market funds and fixed deposits). You will ensure that adequate liquidity is maintained at all times by analysing cash flows and carefully planning the maturity of investments.
Reporting to the Senior Corporate Finance Manager you will assist in managing foreign exchange and interest rate risks, including maintaining any existing hedging programmes. As well as providing analytical support, you will be required to execute spot and derivative transactions. By building strong relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders you will help to ensure that derivative programmes meet business needs and are accurately reported.
Outside of dealing duties the Corporate Finance Analyst will support investment and risk management decision making by providing insightful analysis. You will need to keep abreast of financial market news, regulatory and compliance requirements and present key insights to internal stakeholders. You will be expected to respond flexibly to the broad needs of the department and support other areas of treasury as required including cash forecasting, reporting, audit and compliance requirements
This truly is an exciting opportunity to work in a high performing team responsible for TfL’s corporate finance and treasury activities.
About you
You will be an experienced Treasury or finance professional with an excellent understanding of financial markets and financial instruments. We are looking for a confident individual with an exceptional attention to detail, who can execute transactions accurately in a pressured environment. You will be a team player, but also have an ability to work independently and take full ownership of relevant responsibilities.
You must be highly numerate and have a natural curiosity for financial markets. You need to demonstrate the ability to retrieve, interpret and analyse complex financial data and to provide meaningful insight to both finance and non-finance stakeholders by communicating clearly and confidently.
In order to make robust investment decisions, you will need to understand the relationship between security, liquidity and yield and be able to negotiate the relative value of cash investments and derivatives. This requires the ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with both internal stakeholders and financial counterparties.
Experience of Quantum treasury management system functionality would be an advantage. You should be proficient in Bloomberg, including the use of data feeds into Excel, or have a strong aptitude to learn. Knowledge of treasury related accounting principles, such as hedge accounting, and understanding of back office operations, including settlements and payments, are also desirable.
You must be educated to a degree level or equivalent and either have gained relevant professional qualifications or have a strong desire to further develop your knowledge.
