Transit Authority of River City (TARC) Hiring for Dispatch Coordinator at Louisville, KY Full Time

Performs supervisory as well as advanced work in the administration of training and dispatch operations; s upervises the daily operation of the clerks, janitors, and coach operators; maintains customer relations, supports special services, and assists with special events. This position will support a safety and customer service culture through programs, procedures, and other related work to achieve TARC’s mission and strategic outcomes. The position is responsible for meeting or exceeding all TARC policies and procedures with strict adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations; and performing related duties as assigned .

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, assigns, and supervises the staff, operations, and activities of an assigned administrative function of training and dispatch.
• Supervises, organizes, reviews, and evaluates the activities of division staff; provides for training and professional development of staff.
• Assigns daily work schedules and assignments to the coach operators.
• Processes payroll for assigned staff.
• Supports TARC’s Drug and Alcohol program process.
• Maintains customer relations; swaps out buses to improve service; ensures buses run on time; settles informal grievances; discusses all informal grievances with the Dispatch Manager prior to responding.
• Performs various administrative functions which may include answering telephone calls, inputting daily absentees into the system, ensuring absentee memos are accurate and time stamped, forwarding necessary paperwork to the Nia Night Owl Office, and assisting with the development and implementation of the radio/dispatch operation system.
• Assists with special events such as participation in planning meetings, checking and responding to emails, assisting with operator sign-ups for non-driving jobs, and overseeing proper assignment of buses to special events.
• Performs other job-related duties as requested.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or GED;
• Three (3) years of related experience in the transit industry.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Kentucky or Indiana Commercial Class B Driver’s License with a passenger and air brakes endorsements within 60 days of hire.

• Principles and practices of personnel management including supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
• Various federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations relevant to the work performed.
• Knowledge of FTA Drug and Alcohol program and procedures.
• Advanced principles and practices of employee training and development.
• Business and management principles involved in resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of resources.
• Various methods and techniques to reach mutually agreeable solutions and outcomes.
• Principles and techniques for working with groups and fostering effective team interaction to ensure teamwork is conducted smoothly.
• The structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
• Computers and software programs (e.g., Microsoft software packages) to conduct research, assess information, and/or prepare documentation.
• Supervise, coordinate, and oversee complex programmatic activities in training staff.
• Perform field analysis of safe performance; determine best methods to instruct operators on corrective action.
• Remain aware and current on all service updates, revisions, and bulletins that relate to operator performance and customer service.
• Select and supervise staff; develop and direct people as they work by providing training to ensure tasks are performed effectively; evaluate performance in an objective and positive manner.
• Evaluate and develop improvements in operations, procedures, policies, or methods.
• Prepare and administer large and complex budgets; allocate limited resources in a cost-effective manner.
• Research, analyze, and evaluate service delivery methods, procedures, and techniques.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, using appropriate English grammar and syntax.
• Prepare clear and concise administrative and management s.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of business, including TARC employees, government entities, contractors, and members of the public.
• Effectively use computer systems, applications, and modern business equipment to perform a variety of work tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Incumbents generally work in a typical office environment with adequate light and temperature. There may be occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, loud noise, fumes, noxious odors, dust, mist, gases, and poor ventilation; must be able to see, hear and speak; and sit at a desk for long periods of time. Work may require some level of mobility including lifting or moving materials. Incumbents may interact with upset staff and/or members of the public in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
