The Global Book Alliance (GBA) is an international partnership of donors, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, private sector actors, universities, and other education stakeholders dedicated to ensuring that all learners have the books they need in order to learn to read. By 2030, the GBA aims to see all children and youth with access to high-quality, books written at the right levels in languages they use and understand, as well as the teaching they need to use them effectively to develop their literacy skills.
USAID’s Global Book Alliance in Action (GBAIA) is a two-year initiative that works with the Global Book Alliance, ministries of education, education partners, the private sector, and diverse stakeholders to improve national book supply chains so children receive the books they need to learn to read.
Position Description
Education Development Center is seeking short-term consultants to develop training modules related to the Book Supply Chain. The Consultants reports to the Senior Training Specialist. These are limited term positions beginning when filled.
Each training module will be between 4 and 8 hours. Training should be designed to engage participants in interacting with information and resource materials and with each other to address the supply-chain issues focused on in the training in their own context. Training modules should include all resources needed for a trainer to complete the training including training objectives, timetable for each session, methodology for delivery, materials needed. Modules could include PowerPoints, videos, quizzes, as well as references to additional reading. All related tools and templates should be included (for example, appropriate procurement forms) for use during the training and afterwards. Materials should be relevant for both face-to-face training as well as for transferring to an online format.
The Book Supply chain consists of six areas: 1) Planning and Forecasting; 2) Title Development; 3) Publishing and Printing; 4) Purchasing and Procurement; 5) Distribution Management; and 6) Active Use. GBAIA is seeking consultants to develop the following modules:
Module 1 – Planning and Forecasting
Module 2 – Title Development
Module 3 – Publishing
Module 4 – Purchasing and Procurement
Module 5 – Distribution Management
Module 6 – Active Use
Applicants must indicate which of the six modules for development you have knowledge and experience to develop. Please outline your experience working in the specific area of the supply chain.

The Training Module Consultant’s specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Qualifications
This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 5-7 years relevant experience, or Master’s degree or equivalent with 3-5 years relevant experience; experience in the disciplinary area, social science or public health research, education, training, curriculum design, consulting, organizational development or administrative management, including solid experience with computer applications, instructional design, and Internet research
· Excellent analytical skills and aptitude for details
· Experience working in the field of education, preferably in developing instructional materials;
· Must be able to work within a cross cultural setting, negotiate diplomatically, and function well under pressure;
• Familiarity with multimedia techniques
· Knowledge of and experience with USAID-funded projects preferred but not required.
