Engineering @ Tractable

There’s around 60 of us in the engineering team and we play a key part in bringing our AI to life. The way we build our product is by putting together a talented team with all the skills and context it needs to be able to solve real world problems through close collaboration and agile best practices. You will be working out how we can best help thousands of people around the world recover faster from an accident. We’re proud to see our products have a massive impact on people daily and we know this is just the beginning.

The project you will be working on:

Our team takes deep learning research and applies it to new use-cases in auto insurance and beyond. We take ideas from an interesting teatime chat to a proof-of-concept, to a first customer, to a global expansion, in a matter of months. Our focus is on creating scalable, fully AI solutions to some of the trickiest unsolved problems in computer vision, and our innovation has improved the lives of 100,000s of people so far (really). We’re a fun and ambitious team and looking for someone to join us on our exciting journey!

You will be working within the AI Inspection team which is a new vertical for Tractable and the app will be used for rental cars, used car sales, and much more. This is a very exciting role as it’s truly greenfield meaning full scope and autonomy to come in and build something from the ground up, implement relevant tech/tools, drive best practices and lead a team. The aim of the new product will be to help car owners perform a full inspection of their vehicles using just their smartphones powered by Tractable’s AI, which will be able to figure out every observable detail of the car and remove the need for manual inspections by an expert. The applications you will build will be deployed to the real world, acting on vehicles in real-time and inspiring confidence to our users.

What you will be doing:

• This is a backend software engineering role.
• Being hands on with code in the build and future direction of a brand new product, as well as being responsible for technical delivery
• Working with the Product and Research teams, as well as early adopting customers, to scope, build, and deliver new features.
• Working closely with various business teams as well as wider engineering leadership team in order to continuously improve overall processes and engineering culture

Tech Stack:

We’re tech agnostic when hiring so you don’t need experience with this stack to apply. Most of our team had no experience in this stack before joining us. If you are not familiar with this stack, then it’s a great opportunity to join our team and learn new technologies (and we’ll support you with that).

What we’re looking for…

• Track record of building customer focused products and their end-to-end delivery
• Strong backend programming skills in any OO language
• Strong experience in evaluating different technologies and tools and ability to discuss merits / trade-offs for their use
• A strong product focus & mindset – you have a relentless appetite to work with product teams, drive user impact and champion a customer-focus across teams
• Strong communication & collaboration skills to integrate well into our highly collaborative environment
• Stakeholder management skills to effectively liaise with various teams across the business
