We develop and supply a range of software products which are used extensively within the rail and other public transport sectors, covering all aspects of operations planning and management including timetabling, resource and rolling stock planning and optimisation, real time performance and control, service recovery, incident management and delay attribution, retail services and delay repay. We also offer a consultancy service made up of highly experienced industry specialists, advising on all elements of rail operational planning and modelling including performance improvement, franchise and concession support, data capture and evaluation, as well as innovative bespoke software development capabilities.

Head of Testing
We are currently looking for a software testing specialist to establish our quality assurance function.
We have sophisticated software build and deployment pipelines and are looking to further improve them, building increased confidence and quality into our release processes. We aspire for all of our teams to operate continuous integration and a continuous delivery model enabling rapidly and safe deployment, but we’re a way off that currently. Our systems are mainly web based using the following technologies: Java, Haskell, .Net, Angular, Vue, REST APIs. We use AWS and our architecture is event driven and distributed. We have a service-based approach employing APIs, orchestration and container based deployment. In addition, we have some desktop-based components that employ sophisticated compute-intensive planning algorithms.

What we need from you
We’re looking for thought leadership and knowledge of best practice in testing – both automated and manual. Our ideal candidate would have experience/knowledge of:
You will be an excellent communicator, comfortable guiding and training others. A key responsibility will be to raise the standards of testing across the whole team. You will have a keen interest in modern software engineering practices and a desire to learn about, and contribute to, advances in the industry. You will be responsible for overseeing production of test scripts and validating the approaches taken with different customers. You will know how to get the best out of automated testing ensuring rapid feedback to developers. You will be able to guide developers in how to make their systems and software more testable.
Qualifications
A high-level of attainment at GSCE and A-level (or equivalent) in a number of subjects, plus degree-level or higher education in a relevant area would help demonstrate your appropriateness for the job.
