Toyota Research Institute Hiring for Full Stack Developer Job at Los Altos, CA Full Time

HireArt is helping Toyota Research Institute (TRI) hire a Full Stack Developer with experience in Mobile and AR Technologies to support our efforts in Human-Center AI. The RSE will be working primarily with our Harmonious Communities team and will also support our Carbon Neutrality and Future Product Innovation teams.

In this role, you’ll architect and deploy mobile applications that will be used to collect experimental data from human subjects. You will work with a team of interdisciplinary scientists (Machine Learning, Human-Computer Interaction, and Behavioral Science) to help develop technology that fosters empathy in the physical world. You will also work with other engineers performing tasks related to mobile app development, AR/VR, front/back end web development, and data pipelines.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of mobile app development and augmented reality experience.

As a Full Stack Developer, you will:

• Develop systems to support human subjects data collection.
• Work with researchers to determine requirements for systems, as well as architect and test them.
• Iteratively develop user interfaces to showcase research ideas, web-based survey applications, and mobile apps capable of collecting, archiving, and analyzing data from sensors.
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline
• 3+ years experience in Mobile app/AR experience.
• Experienced in both Python and Javascript
• Interested in supporting the collection and analysis of human subjects data
• Displays a prototyping mindset—building solutions that are “good enough” to answer a steady stream of scientific questions
• Detail-oriented and able to work independently as well as in groups
• Enjoys collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams
• Proactive and seeks out new opportunities for impact, as time permits
• Strong time management and prioritization abilities
• Eager to learn new skills
• 2 days per quarter onsite

Nice-to-have Experience:

• Experience working within a research institute, university, or the research division of any major organization
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Comfortable giving and receiving feedback
• Experience with wearable sensors (e.g., Empatica E4, Tobii Glasses)
• Experience with AWS—launching EC2 instances, hosting data in AWS, etc.
• Knowledge of big data and machine learning frameworks
• Knowledge of testing methods
• Knowledge of psychology, artificial intelligence, or HCI research as well as an interest in contributing to scientific publications

Commitment: This is a full-time (40 hours) position through March 31, 2022 that is staffed via HireArt and based in Los Altos, CA. Would require non-local candidates to travel to their Bay Area office for two days in the first few months of assignment to meet the team onsite.
