JOB INFORMATION
This posting is for current and upcoming opportunities which may involve working night shift with Thursday/Friday as off days and various work ing locations, which may vary as directed by work assignments.
Upon successful completion of the classroom and on-the-job training, the candidate will be re-classified as a Workcar Operator (Wage Group 7).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Operating various non-revenue rail cars such as flat cars, locomotives, wall washing units, rail cleaning cars, rail grinding cars, ballast cars, pumper/vacuum cars, steel-wheeled snow removal equipment, etc.
Performing daily service check (i.e. checking cables, hoses, lights, trip cock valves, collector shoes; tightening nuts, greasing, topping up oil and fluids, etc.) on the vehicle operated, ing servicing or repairs required to supervisors and completing the appropriate forms; ensuring that vehicles are kept in a state of cleanliness both inside and outside;
Grinding rails, washing walls, pumping/vacuuming drains and cleaning/de-icing power rails, and fuelling motorized equipment and rail cars;
Loading and unloading parts, equipment, tools, materials, debris etc.; manually or using overhead shop crane or similar hoisting equipment; monitoring loading to ensure weight or load is within lifting capacity; moving and positioning loads visually or in response to hand signals;
Setting out track lights, flags, and/or impassable track set-ups in strict accordance with published safety regulations;
Ensuring that rail cars are properly coupled/secured during push/pull operations; coupling/uncoupling vehicles as required;
Lifting or pulling manual track switches as required;
May be required to operate service vehicle as a recovery unit under emergency conditions;
When a vehicle is not required or available for operation, the incumbent will be assigned to perform Track Maintainer duties or assist with a wide variety of manual tasks;
Performing snow removal duties using hand held tools or mechanical powered equipment as required;
Completing own job and time cards, and any other routine forms, records, s etc. as required;
Performing related duties as assigned.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 12 education or its recognized equivalent as determined by the Operations Training Centre;
Must be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions as demonstrated by an ability to understand and follow published operating/safety rules and regulations;
Must be able to speak clearly in order to exchange information and instructions with the control centres and follow proper radio and telephone protocol;
Must have successfully completed the Track Maintainer training program;
Must possess a valid class G province of Ontario driver’s licence;
Must pass a vision test and established pre-test set by the Training and Development Department;
Must attend and successfully complete training programs for Subway/SRT Rulebook, first aid, CPR, WHMIS and if necessary, the TTC’s respiratory protection program;
Will be required to be fitted with a respirator;
Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
