JOB INFORMATION
We are currently seeking a Unit Builder. In addition, will require to back-fill other positions with-in the section, such as Tool Room Operator (including weekends) and various areas of other cost centers
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Performing varied bench inspection and assembly work on a wide variety of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic automotive units and equipment
Disassembling units; inspecting and/or repairing or replacing parts; reassembling, testing and adjusting units for proper fit and operation according to specifications and tolerances; making up brackets, small parts and fittings not requiring machining; bending, fitting and filing parts; precision fitting of some parts; pressing bearings on and off, etc
Completing own job and time cards, work tickets, and defect tags and other routine forms, records or s as necessary and using a computer to input and retrieve information
Ordering materials and parts or referring special orders to the Foreperson
Treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers and/or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within your area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.
Demonstrates behaviors that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Training normally obtained through completion of a Grade 12 technical program, or have the recognized equivalent, as defined by the Training Department
Must have successfully completed community college level courses approved by the TTC in electrical theory (direct current fundamentals); and machine shop practices (encompassing basic safety, hand and bench tool usage, precision measurement, blueprint reading, workshop mathematics, metric/imperial conversion, fraction/decision conversion, close tolerance fitting)
Must pass the Department’s skills test
Must possess the ability to move large and heavy parts with the assistance of lifting devices
Possess the ability to operate various general shop equipment and specialized shop equipment such as large drum lathes, overhead cranes, power wash equipment, industrial parts spray washers, emersion tanks, brake shoe relining machine
Must supply an appropriate set of your own automotive trade hand tools other than the special tools provided by the T.T.C
Required to use breathing respirators during some aspects of the work
May be required to work in any of the 3 sections in the Shop due to sickness, vacation, work overload or other similar circumstance
Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
This position is designated as Safety Sensitive under the TTC’s Fitness for Duty Policy. If you do not currently hold a designated position, you will be required to pass a drug test as part of the certification process.
