Role: Part-Time Online Tutoring

Rate: Depend on experience and the level of tutorial jobs – £10 – £15 per hour
Term: Tutors will be hired on a self-employed basis until the end of the 2021/22 academic year. They should be available for work at least for three consecutive hours per week.

This job will be delivered all through online platforms.

Job Description

As a Tutor, individuals will deliver tuition sessions English, Humanities, Maths, Modern foreign languages, Science, Primary (reading, writing, maths and science) and Music to children and young people aged 5-16, delivering tuition on one-on-one or small group basis.

The role of Tutors is paid between £10 and £15 per hour depending on candidate’s experience and the level of tutorial jobs. The appointment of a Tutor is subject to the successful completion of Toranj Tuition’s training programme, which will include: how to mentor and befriend, safeguarding children, how to be an effective tutor, DBS check and an assessment.

Toranj Tuition is a non-profit company providing supplementary tuition to disadvantaged students, with the aim of reducing the educational inequality often associated with poverty, and inspiring, guiding and enabling local children/young people to achieve their full potential. After a rigorous application process, we have been approved as a Tuition Partner for the National Tutoring Programme.

Responsibilities

Attend inductions with school staff prior to delivery of sessions, to learn about students tuition requirements and subject areas

Spend adequate time preparing for tuition sessions using topics and subject information provided by school staff

Ensure timely communication with company staff

Adhere to all company/school rules and guidelines where applicable

Take notes during tuition sessions to document progress made and areas covered

Complete timesheet at the end of each session and submit in a timely manner

Utilise study skills and techniques to help students

Deliver high quality tuition to students

Inspire and raise aspirations of students

Increase confidence of students

Encourage students to become active, independent learners

Form supportive relationships with students

Foster a positive and safe learning experience for students

Make learning fun, accessible and enjoyable for students

Responsible for registering as a self-employed individual and such, is accountable for paying any/all National Insurance contributions and tax

Skills and Person Specification

Essential
Experience of the British education system
Strong academic credentials, including a minimum of B grade in GCSE Maths and English
Proficiency in Language, Maths and/or Science
Commitment to TT’s ethos, goals and aims
Ability to build positive rapport with mentees
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively with pupils in schools and colleges, parents and teachers
Punctual with excellent time management
Proven maturity and reliability
Music tutors should incorporate elements of general musicianship, such as ear training and theory, as well as instrumental technique and interpretation

Desirable

Experience of volunteering

Experience working with children and young people

Experience working in a customer facing environment

Experience of mentoring/tutoring/teaching – not essential as fully training will be provided

Salary: £10.00-£15.00 per hour
