As a key member of the team, the Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory Manager is responsible for quality execution, continuous improvement, and regulatory compliance while working with customers, suppliers, and manufacturing staff. They will act as a member of the plant leadership team and help to build and support a strong culture of food safety, establish, and maintain quality systems, and implement corrective actions to meet defined expectations.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Build, Implement and sustain an effective HACCP & GFSI Food Safety Management Program providing policies, procedures, and standards to identify and manage corrective actions within the manufacturing operations.
· Manage and enforce a GFSI Food Safety Program to include hiring, training, and coaching all staff to ensure quality standards and safety requirements are met.
· Manage Internal and External audits and testing, as needed.
· Collaborate with operations on daily production needs and initiate corrective action and preventative measures when necessary.
· Investigate and follow up on quality and food safety incidents that occur in the plant or with the product.
· Monitor consumer feedback and manage complaint logs to report back to management, and the executive, to inform and improve product quality and manufacturing processes.
· Lead and manage export and ingredient/bulk customer quality and compliance requirements, programs, and expectations.
· Develop and implement procedures and policies for on-boarding new suppliers and maintaining current suppliers to ensure all incoming materials meet the requirements of the manufacturing facilities and food safety program.
· Guide supply chain, logistics, and warehouse teams to ensure all relevant customs and food safety policies and procedures are being followed during the procurement of ingredients, movement of ingredients and finished goods, and the fulfillment of orders.
· Implement and maintain various food product certifications including Kosher
Certification, Non-GMO Project Verification, Gluten-Free Certification, and HACCP-based programs including GFSI – SQF Code A Certification and Safe Food for Canadians Certification.
· Lead recall and mock recall exercises and ensure relevant parties are trained, engaged, and notified of recalled products.
· Maintains up-to-date ingredient & finished product information in Genesis software and customer-specific specifications
· Support Product Development and Innovation pipeline, as required, to ensure packaging and specification compliance.
· Preparation and delivery of reports, presentations, and other quality communications.
· Actively supports risk management activities as it relates to quality, customer, brand, and food safety.
· Support the team with any other projects or duties required to be completed as needed.
The Ideal Candidate Has:
· Post-secondary education in Food Science or science-related discipline
· 4+ years’ experience in managing the Quality and Food Safety function, including building, leading and directing team members
· Demonstrated knowledge and application of process control, quality assurance techniques and tools, and quality management principles in a food manufacturing environment.
· Previous internal and external audit experience
· Professional food quality/safety certifications
· Prior experience obtaining certifications and building food safety programs in a food processing start-up company
· In-depth knowledge of quality and food safety and experience implementing and maintaining food safety plans
· Strong leadership and interpersonal skill
· Ability to supervise and motivate others in a team environment
· Excellent data analyzing and review skills with a great eye for detail
· A willingness to tackle new projects and challenges
· A commitment to collaboration and getting the job done together
· Strong adaptability and change management skills
· Strong technical and computer skills: Microsoft Skills -Excel, Word, PPT
