Thomas Hassall Anglican College is a P-12 independent College located with close access to the

The College is seeking to employ an experienced educator and leader with a background in

Senior School English. The right candidate will be able to gather, inspire and lead others, and

have an expert understanding of current pedagogical practices in learning and teaching as well

as being creative and innovative. She/he will be an active Christian who understands how to

integrate faith and education in relevant and authentic ways. The best candidate will work with

the Assistant Coordinator and English staff towards the improvement and innovation of the

English Teaching and Learning Programs in Years 7-12.

Key Selection Criteria

the successful applicant for the above position must be able to provide evidence to support the

following criteria:

• Strong personal Christian faith and be a regular and practising member of a Bible-based

Christian Church

• Appropriate teaching qualifications & accreditation in NSW where needed
• Experiencing teach Stage 6 Advanced English, Ext 1 and Ext 2 English is preferred
• A well-informed understanding of contemporary learning and teaching practices,

to collaborative leadership within a team environment. Previous experience in

providing leadership or assisting in overseeing English Programs and/or initiatives is an

advantage

• Excellent knowledge and understanding of the integration of technology in the delivery

of learning

• Demonstrated good team leadership skills: including approachability; listening skills;

conflict resolution; exercising sound judgement; and showing initiative

• Strong organisational and time management skills with an ability to prioritise tasks,

meet prescribed deadlines and concurrently manage a number of competing tasks

• Excellent communication skills (written and oral)

Qualifications

• Secondary Teaching qualifications in English
• Accreditation at Experienced Teacher (ISTAA) is an advantage
• Ability to teach Stage 6 Advanced English and Ext 1 /Ext 2 English is preferred

English Coordinator

Primary Purpose:

The English Coordinator will work with all staff to lead the Strategic Plan related to

improvement and innovation of the English Program of the Senior School including: teaching

and learning programs, debating/public speaking and communication with staff, parents and

students.

Accountable to:

The Principal through the Deputy Principal/Head of Senior School Learning

Directly reports to:

Director of Teaching and Learning

5. Faculty Coordinators

6. Assistant Coordinator of English

The following staff report directly to the English Coordinator:

• Assistant Coordinator of English
• English Teaching Staff

Major Responsibilities

The English Coordinator is responsible to the Principal through the Deputy Principal/Head of

Senior School Learning for:

• The effective and efficient leadership, supervision, management and development of

the team of teachers assigned by the College to teach the subject.

• The implementation of an:
• appropriate induction program for new teachers in relation to their faculty;
• appropriate training program for staff in areas where they require additional skills

practices and procedures pertinent to the faculty.

• The production, implementation, regular registration and evaluation of a teaching

program for each class in the faculty – which is compliant with the relevant NESA

Syllabuses and Assessment requirements, consistent with the College ethos and suited

to the needs of the students within the class.

• The oversight and implementation of teaching and assessment strategies suited to the

diverse needs, interests and aptitudes of the students within each class, including

strategies that assist students with learning difficulties and students with outstanding

abilities who require enrichment.

• The implementation of a faculty observation program to improve teacher classroom

practice.

• The analysis of faculty results and the development of strategies to improve student

learning outcomes.

• The implementation within the faculty of an effective assessment and reporting system.
• The delegation of responsibilities to team members.
• The efficient management of the physical resources entrusted to the faculty.
• Oversight of College Public Speaking and Debating (internal and external competitions).
• Oversight of English faculty’s involvement in Special College Events e.g. HSC Showcase,

maintenance of high standards of student behaviour, student morale, the wearing of

the College uniform, classroom and playground cleanliness.

• The security and tidiness of the top level of H Block within College hours.

The English Coordinator is expected to be present at:

• all mandatory College events,
• all mandatory professional development activities
• all formal parent-teacher interview evenings
• designated information evenings
• designated playground duties, sports duties, assemblies, excursions, allocated

committees and camps
