Summary

Thesis Editor Ltd is seeking academic editors to join our team. Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Operations and Lead Academic Consultant, editors will provide editorial, formatting, consulting, and research services to clients.

Thesis Editor Ltd consists of a group of academic consultants, project managers, editors, and analysts who collaboratively provide a comprehensive suite of first-class academic services to advanced students and scholars in higher education’s STEM, humanities, and professional fields. We primarily serve postgraduate students who are developing, writing, and finalising their theses or dissertations, and also provide support for post-doctoral projects, such as journal articles, professional papers, and dissertation-to-book conversions. Our work entails not only customized professional services in technical editing, but also consultative and pedagogical engagement calibrated to the specific needs, requirements, and capacities of a given client and their unique project.

Thesis Editor Ltd is the UK branch of Dissertation Editor, LLC, which is a Better Business Bureau-accredited private firm, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the United States, we have been in operation since 2005. Our longevity in the dynamic, burgeoning field of online educational services is due in large measure to our strict adherence to the highest standards of both academic and professional integrity. The ethos and expertise we bring to our work is reflective of our diverse doctoral backgrounds and our experience in top-tier institutions of higher education. Indeed, as a prerequisite for work with our firm, we stipulate that every team member hold a PhD or equivalent advanced degree and have received that degree from a CCHIE-rated Research I or II Institution of Higher Learning (or international equivalents).

Our firm has enjoyed incredible growth in recent years and we are now entering a new phase of expansion with the opening of our UK branch. At present, our US team consists of 9 full-time employees and around 80 contractors. We are currently building our UK team and expect Thesis Editor Ltd to attain similar growth over the next four to five years.

Description

Thesis Editor is seeking motivated, meticulous, professional doctorates with outstanding editorial abilities to join our team as Academic Editors.

Qualifications

Required

• Full UK work authorization.
• PhD or equivalent advanced academic degree from a top-tier research university in the UK. (Applicants holding a degree from a European or Commonwealth university may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants holding a degree from an online program will not be considered. Applicants not holding a PhD or equivalent will not be considered.)
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Sensitivity and responsivity in editing to client diversity and cross-cultural needs.
• Impeccable professionalism, tact, and patience.
• Ability to execute editorial work impeccably and prioritize competing demands to meet firm deadlines.
• Demonstrable fluency in at least two (2) academic and reference styles (e.g. Harvard, APA, Vancouver, MLA, Chicago).
• Demonstrable proficiency in advanced MS Word features and formatting tools.

Preferred

• Interdisciplinary flexibility with a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate across the humanities, social sciences, STEM, and professional fields.
• Prior experience teaching in higher education.
• Prior experience editing academic writing for university audiences.
• Proficiency in a language other than English; familiarity with one of the UK minority languages (e.g. Punjabi, Hindi/Urdu, French, Arabic) will be an added advantage.

Terms and Compensation

This is a part-time remote position. As contractors, editors retain full rights to the application and management of their labor. Compensation is project based; projects are compensated in the form of a flat fee determined by the size and scope of the project.
