Location/Division Specific Information

The Operations Engineer II will play a critical role at Thermo Fisher Scientific Electrical Fault Analysis (EFA) business unit located in Richardson Texas. Our factories produce low-volume, high complexity analytical products for semiconductor designers and manufacturers to use in the creation and improvement of their products and manufacturing processes.

The Operations Engineer II will join a diverse team responsible for the successful introduction of new products into the factory and field. They will also contribute to the ongoing improvement of products and associated manufacturing processes. This role collaborates closely with the Product Lifecycle Management, Product Marketing, New Product Development, Manufacturing, Logistics, Purchasing, Quality, Finance, and Global Technical Support groups to ensure the development of sustainable products according to the latest quality standards, at the lowest COGS, and in line with best known practices. Throughout the lifecycle of our products, we implement quality, cost, and process improvements to increase customer satisfaction.

What you will do!

• Define requirements for manufacturability, serviceability and reliability, software, test and diagnostics (TAD) protocols
• Work closely with R&D to drive service and factory requirements in all phases of the Product Management Process (PMP)
• Drives Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) on behalf of operations for all new products
• Defines Bill of Materials (BOM) structure for new product development
• Participates with R&D in initial product builds and validation
• Defines and creates test, assembly, installation and service procedures and test equipment for factory and field
• Resolves critical issues via advanced troubleshooting as needed by interacting with the appropriate functional groups
• Creates manufacturing and service introduction plan
• Trains Manufacturing, Factory Support and Service personnel in new product build, test, install and repair procedures
• Responsible for engineering change orders to support factory and service as needed
• Cultivate positive working relationships with Product Lifecycle Management, Factory Support Engineering, Field Service, GTS, Applications, R&D and Operations personnel
• Apply Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Practical Process Improvement (PPI) tools to lead or facilitate productivity, scrap reduction, process improvement, and cost improvement projects

How to get here:

• University degree in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a combination of technical education and experience that demonstrates the required skills. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 2+ years of experience in high-tech industry environment in service, development, or manufacturing
• Able to solve complex electro-mechanical systems using electrical schematics, DVM, oscilloscopes, function generators and spectrum analyzers
• Experience with FMEA, Design for Manufacturability, Design for Assembly, and Design of Experiments
• Demonstrated experience managing new product introduction and multi-functional projects
• Experience in bringing technology solutions to improving the quality, efficiency, and cost of manufacturing and service
• Experience in semiconductor capital equipment manufacturing and/or service
• Must have ability to obtain a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required
• Fluent in English (verbal and in writing)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively to multiple levels of the organization
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, SharePoint, Visio, etc.) to analyze, organize, and communicate data/information throughout the organization in a clear and concise manner

• Conduct system level integration for highly-integrated semiconductor capital equipment tools
• Interface directly with manufacturing for product documentation and vendor interactions that support the production and deployment of new or next-generation systems designs
• Knowledge of key technologies including vacuum, motion control, process automation, optics, analog signal processing and material selection
