Education & Public Programs Manager

The Education + Public Programs Manager, reporting to The Watermill Center Director, creates, implements, and manages educational and public programming initiatives directly engaging with The Watermill Center Artists-in-Residence (AIR), alumni artists, and The Watermill Collection. As a process-based arts organization, The Watermill Center’s education and public programs offer insights into the artist’s process and provide a platform for AIRs and a lumni to share their practice. The Watermill Center seeks an Education + Public Programs Manager with a passion for learning, working with young people, developing partnerships, and creating opportunities to engage audiences of all ages.
Responsibilities
Oversee, coordinate, and enhance Education + Public Programs, as they relate to The Watermill Center mission and serve the community.
Coordinate programs with staff, AIRs, schools and community partners.
Plan and co-facilitate teaching workshops with current AIRs and AIR Alumni.
Work closely with the Artist Programs Manager to coordinate InProcess with AIRs.
Teach and lead core programs and school visits on and off-site.
Coordinate annual Viewpoints Lecture Series.
Document (photo, video, etc.) programs, as needed.
Work closely with the Communications Manager to develop marketing materials.
Create education presentations.
Work with the Development department on fundraising strategy as it relates to Education and Public Programs, including but not limited to drafting language, facilitating data collection, and gathering testimonials.
Expand virtual programming, where needed.
Schedule and lead tours for education groups and general visitors.
Increase community outreach with an expanded & diverse volunteer group.
Facilitate learning about The Watermill Collection, Archive, and Library.
Assist visitors with Open Library hours.
Provide general support during special events.
Qualifications + Desired Skills
3-5 years teaching experience in at least one arts discipline, and working with varying ages, generations, and abilities
Knowledge of multi-disciplinary art practices including literary, performing and visual arts
Strong collaboration and creative thinking skills
Ability to work with teachers and administrators to organize successful student engagements of 100 or more participants and multiple synchronous activities
Ability to plan and implement public events of up to 250 visitors
Strong communication and writing skills
Ability to plan and facilitate oral and visual presentations to various audiences
Experience working with community groups and ability to make connections across diverse populations
Experience with documentation including photography, video and written narratives
Experience in or around not-for-profits organizations
Experience leading virtual workshops and webinars
Proficiency in Google and Microsoft Suites, Slack, Zoom, and adopting new digital tools.
Spanish language proficiency preferred.
Employment Terms
Full-time, ongoing position located at The Watermill Center in Water Mill, N Y. M -F, 9 : 00 a m to 5:00 pm with some evening and weekend hours. 15 days vacation, dates to be approved by supervisor; 10 major public holidays; 5 personal days; Option for health and dental insurance benefits; option for 401(k) plan. Salary commensurate with experience.
