About This Opportunity
The specific Bushfire Data Commons project managed under NCRIS-enabled TERN aims to build a data management framework for on-going open access to fuel data and related parameters to enable Australia-wide bushfire response and preparedness. The framework defines the information models, implementation processes and systems for ongoing sharing of fuel data and related attributes that are optimally designed to meet the needs of multiple stakeholders.
Key responsibilities will include:

Thorough analysis of data catalogues
-
Assisting with locating data on fuel-load and fuel-related parameters with respect to bushfires

Working closely with data from stakeholders to analyse, summarise, present and advise on its suitability for use by next users

Assist in conducting workshops and seminars for internal and external stakeholders

Other duties, as reasonable directed by the supervisor

About You
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Research Assistant to apply their subject matter expertise and advanced knowledge of bushfire fuel load parameters and ecosystem condition to the TERN “Aggregated and harmonised fuel data on a national scale” research data project.

A relevant degree in a field such as Environmental Science, Earth Sciences, Mathematics, Eco-informatics or Data Science or equivalent qualifications and experience in a related area.

Specific research experience in fuel load, or ecosystem condition would be desirable.

Evidence of experience in working with ecosystem science data, including that derived from field survey, sensor observation and remote sensing.

Strong computational skills, along with demonstrated experience in data management and analysis of ecology data. GIS experience is desirable.

Demonstrated strong liaison, interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to build relationships across a range of professional and disciplinary areas in a research environment and with proven ability to produce clear, succinct documentation.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and software skills used in data management.

Well-developed problem-solving skills, with an ability to forward plan, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work with a high level of adaptability, both independently and as part of a team
What We Can Offer
This is a casual position at HEW Level 6. The hourly rate will be $54.45 plus superannuation. The position is based at the Long Pocket campus.
