The Head of Access, Student Employability, Success and Development, is a strategically critical role within the University, providing leadership to ensure that the Division and the wider Directorate for the Student Experience makes a full contribution towards the objectives the University to support a world-class teaching, learning and student experience, whilst working in true partnership with colleagues and students alike.
We are seeking an inspiring, experienced leader with a passion for providing an outstanding student experience and a reputation for developing strong collaborative partnerships within and outside of the University. Experience of delivering positive change, of innovating and of strong and compassionate leadership are essential. The successful candidate will work in partnership with the Head of Student and Academic Services, the Director for the Student Experience, Academic Vice-President for Teaching, Learning and Students and senior academic and Professional Services managers across our Faculties and Schools.
The overall purpose of the Access, Student Employability, Success and Development Team is to lead integrated programmes and activities that support all students to fulfil their potential, succeed at university, and progress into positive graduate outcomes. This unique team supports successful student outcomes for all students from access, to progression and success (pre arrival to post graduation) with the ability to target resource as required due to the University‘s commitment to widening access and reducing awarding gaps
The team provides strategic oversight for access, success and progression in one business area but is also aligned vertically with Schools and Faculties to ensure that strategic and operational responsibilities e.g. Access and Participation Plan and Employability are embedded and supported throughout the Teaching Learning and Student Experience structures. Working with senior academic leadership in Teaching and Learning the team will support emerging inclusive teaching and learning themes to Undergraduate and Post Graduate Taught students, driven by the outcomes of established monitoring and review processes, including APR / Transforming Teaching Together and Access and Participation Plan.
The Division is a part of our wider Directorate for the Student Experience, which was established to facilitate a joined up approach to the delivery of services to students throughout the student lifecycle and to provide leadership to enhance the student experience. The Directorate encompasses all University level student services across the student journey, from international recruitment through registration, student access, development and success, teaching and learning, student support, residences and sport and on to graduation.
