The Summit Area YMCA Hiring for Chess Instructor at Summit, NJ Full Time

The Summit Area YMCA (SAY) is seeking a Chess Instructor to teach the game of chess to students during our after-school enrichment classes. The Chess Instructor will work under the guidance and supervision of the Program Coordinator.
This Part Time position (2 hours per week) works at both Summit and Berkeley Heights YMCA branches. The weekly schedule consists of two, 45-minute classes (arrive 15 minutes prior to prepare for class) starting September 2022. One class at the Summit branch and one class at the Berkeley Heights branch each week. The weekly scheduled hours may change based on student registration.

Essential Functions:

• Teaches chess to students in a fun and engaging way
• Creates an enjoyable and safe classroom environment for children to learn and have fun
• Maintains accurate attendance records
• Ensures strategic objectives are being met
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.

Requirements: Qualifications:

• Must know the rules and how to play the game of chess
• Prior experience working with children
• Have availability during the after-school hours (between 4:00-6:00pm) two days per week
• Experience managing a classroom and creating lesson plans
• Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
