The Studio School of Durham is a research-based project focused K-6 independent school in Durham, North Carolina. As a small but growing school, we seek a Director who shares our vision for an innovative 21st-century educational environment.

Our Director must possess a growth mindset, have a proven record of success, be a solid and empathetic leader, value accountability and responsibility, display and expect high standards, and believe that children are uniquely gifted and capable of amazing things.

The ideal candidate will have an interest, passion, or experience in innovative or progressive learning environments. A commitment to continuous process improvement and a creative approach to new ideas and problem-solving are highly valued. As the school ambassador, the Director will need to demonstrate an understanding of the program’s philosophy, culture, and practices and have the ability to articulate this to new and prospective families. Thus, excellent communication skills are essential.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s and ideally relevant experience. Compelling candidates lacking the above requirements but possessing unique educational backgrounds and experience will be considered.

In addition, the Director should have or exhibit:

The ability to mentor and inspire others

The ability to grow a team of like-minded educators

The ability to create an environment that offers individualized and personalized

learning

A love of working with children and families

A strong desire to create a community within the school’s staff and families.

The ability to sustain The Studio School model through proven business and financial

experience or a willingness to learn

The ability to discover and address problematic issues and identify solutions.

Communicate and build positive relationships with current and prospective parents
