About the Team:

The Business Operations team provides finance, human resources, project assurance and general business advice and support that enables the delivery of multiple significant programs and projects across the State including the Murray Darling Basin.

About the Role:

As the Program Accountant you will work closely with project staff and deliver specialised financial advice, support and oversight to complex multi million dollar project(s). You will be part of an existing collaborative and supportive team of finance and business staff and will also work closely with the WIO Governance team and Corporate Finance in the delivery of a suite of finance functions that aligns to both DEW and external funding agreement requirements.

To be successful in the role, you will have significant experience and well developed finance skills, the ability to establish strong key relationships and be a team player and solutions focused.

What can a day in the role can look like..

• Joint development of multi million dollar program and project budgets with project staff and Managers
• Provision of financial analysis and advice to support a strategic approach to decision making that in turn maximises outcomes
• Rigourous analysis, reconciliation and reporting to ensure alignment of project workplan budgets with branch budgets
• Identifying risks and/or opportunities and referring accordingly including advice/recommendations
• Contributing to project progress reporting for external funding partners
• Contributing to the development and oversight of project/program funding agreements and variations

• Demonstrated experience in developing strong key networks and relationships to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
• Proven ability to convey both financial and qualitative information to stakeholders with no financial background.
• Maintains a thorough and up to date knowledge of relevant legislation, accounting principles and standards including financial accounting systems so that skills can be applied to undertake multiple tasks.
• Previous experience with large, complex, multi million dollar project budgets (desirable).
• Previous experience in finance within the public sector (desirable).
