UI / UX Designer

The Opportunity

We are developing a POC in collaboration with a large global customer. This is a short-term engagement with the possibility for a long-term extension of up to 2 years. Our customer loves software and technology and are passionate about helping businesses stay one step ahead of the challenges facing their industry.

About You

We are looking for a UI / UX Designer to work within our Agile delivery team in the UK, working as part of an ambitious team. This is a challenging role in an exciting fast paced company with lots of opportunity to work on a variety of interesting projects. You will work closely with UX design teams distributed across the UK, to help enable the team to maintain a consistent and unified user experience across an extensive & diverse portfolio of solutions.

We are looking for a collaborative team player and strategic thinker with great organisational skills, you’ll need to be a self-starter / self-motivated, as this role has a great deal of autonomy.

Day-to-day, you will:

• Be responsible for evolving the visual design of our components and products across the business
• Design and build new interfaces that contribute to a shared component library
• Have a good appreciation and understanding of UX principles
• Provide patterns, best practices and guidance on interaction design for different devices and platforms
• Answer incoming questions about the designs provided
• Have a good understanding of accessibility and how to design to accessibility standards
• Utilise internal UX tools
• Help determine visual styles shaped by a robust understanding of colour theory and typography
• Use atomic design principles to facilitate the design development of more complex design patterns
• Create artifacts/docs/specs that enable engineers to implement new UIs efficiently
• Conduct user testing on components to ensure they are fit for purpose and meet with the latest accessibility guidance
• Pro-actively engage in agile development activities: scrums, planning and estimating sessions, workshops, and stakeholder development demonstrations where required
• Initiate and support engagement through Special Interest Groups, User Groups and other events

Required skills and experience:

• Strong design and process skills
• Excellent communication skills able to communicate at all levels and adopt a flexible & consultative approach
• Previous experience of working on software essential
• Strong design principle appreciation and natural curiosity/understanding of how users engage with your designs
• Experience of working with wireframing and design tools
• Able to work with remote teams where necessary
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills with high attention to detail
• Ability to think strategically whilst achieving results in immediate area of responsibility
• Ability to think creatively and exploit opportunities
• Able to grasp design concepts and new product functionality quickly
• Thorough knowledge of agile development methods, processes and best practices
• Good organisational skills
• Self-motivated with the ability to work on own and within a team
• Ability to work to tight timescales
• A commitment to quality
• Be able to adapt to a fast-paced environment where priorities can change
• Commercially aware with an understanding of drivers of commercial performance
• Sound team working skills, able to integrate in a high performing team
