The So Company Hiring for Content Strategist Job at Remote Full Time

The So Company is looking for a Content Strategist Consultant to join our expanding team. The purpose of a Content QA Analyst is to edit and proof the content in a content management system (CMS), digital document, platform, website, and/or file. The Content QA Analyst’s focuses will include fact-checking, proofreading for grammar and punctuation and typographical errors, and wording. They also conduct a test to ensure functionality on multiple platforms, as well as a test of all interactives to make sure that links to internal and external pages work.

Since 2014, The So Company’s teams have supported federal, state, and local government agencies and private sector organizations on projects that help improve service delivery—for example, improving content and usability on HealthCare.gov for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and VA.gov (formerly Vets.gov) for the Department of Veterans Affairs—and on projects that support innovation and organizational change—for example with the United States Navy and the United States Air Force.

Similarly, team members at The So Company will contribute to internal projects in all areas of the business, including but not limited to sales and business development, marketing, process development, and training development.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with a small team to maintain the Platform website, which is a documentation website for backend teams and leadership who work on the VA Platform
• Maintain and edit a style guide, page templates, and other internal publishing and writing guidance to foster accessible, plain language content
• Write, edit, and audit developer and end-user documentation and interface copy for users
• Provide content strategy recommendations to improve user experience and ensure consistent voice and tone
• Strategically develop content initiatives based on the needs of Platform website contributors and leadership
• Deploy the Platform website on an assigned day each week to ensure the timely publication of contributors’ content
• Support internal So Company content needs as they come up, such as editing and writing case studies and white papers

Important qualities for someone in this role to have:

• Comfortable working in a collaborative, agile environment. They’ll work with the Content team on a daily basis. They’ll also communicate and work with members of other Platform teams, VFS engineers, and leadership.
• A willingness to learn new skills and take on tasks outside of their areas of expertise.
• Knowing how to ask their project manager and teammates for help when they need it.
• The ability to follow plain language best practices and write clearly and concisely.
• The flexibility to take on new tasks as they come up. The content team plans projects and initiatives on a quarterly and sprint basis, but sometimes new content needs pop up.
• Other helpful skills: Content strategy, content writing, technical writing, UX writing, plain language, copy editing, communication, IA, public speaking (or at least comfortable presenting at demos), interpersonal skills (e.g. interacting with subject matter experts during meetings), experience creating or following style guides, experience using and creating content in Confluence or another CMS platform, experience communicating on Slack, customer support

Important to note:

• The job is ~75% content strategy, content support, content maintenance and editing, and communication and ~25% writing. There may be opportunities to take on more writing work (e.g. pairing with engineers on technical documents or creating writing guidance), but our PM divides that work between the writers on the team.

Mandatory Requirements

• Must possess a high school diploma; associate’s degree (or higher) preferred
• 3+ Years Content Strategist exp.
• Must be a United States citizen
• Must speak English
• Verification of identity, education, prior employment, and references is required
• Must be willing and able to, and may be required to, obtain a SECRET security clearance for federal projects; this may involve a background check and interview with a federal investigator
