Summary Of Duties And Responsibilities

This position will primarily work within The Smith Center’s CARE Project – Compassionate Arts Remaking Education – in collaboration with select Clark County School District (CCSD) schools. The CARE Project is a theater education program, developed by the Cleveland Play House Theater in Cleveland, Ohio. CARE is driven by lessons from social-emotional learning theories, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based literacy learning for students in grades K-8.

The Smith Center’s CARE Project is grant-funded through a partnership with the Cleveland Play House. Teaching Artists hired to work in the CARE Project will be full-time 12-month team members of The Smith Center assigned to work in select CCSD schools during the school year with additional responsibilities for education programming at The Smith Center when schools are not in session. Only the first 12 months of the position are guaranteed as the continuation of the CARE project would be contingent upon further review and evaluation of the grant.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Complete training in the CARE theater enrichment programming
• Complete CCSD Mandatory ing and Child Abuse and Neglect training
• Teaching via direct instruction, planning, and implementation in the CARE theater enrichment programming using the CARE lessons within assigned CCSD schools
• Create and maintain a positive school culture in collaboration with school staff including, but not limited to:
• Serve as a role model and ambassador for The Smith Center as a community partner.
• Attend school meetings and trainings.
• Assist in leading professional development sessions for school staff.
• Attend special events with the school community.
• Substitute for other CARE Teaching Artists in the event of absences in other select schools as needed.
• Support and help create arts enrichment programming at assigned schools and/or at The Smith Center.
• Document weekly fidelity ing as it relates to the CARE Project.
• Administer and evaluate beginning and end of school-year theater skills assessments.
• Facilitate an after-school CARE program (minimum of 4 hours per week) within scheduled hours of work.
• Participate in The Smith Center’s educational and artistic programs and trainings as required.

Required Education, And Experience

• Bachelor’s degree preferred, specific study in a performing arts discipline is preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years work experience in teaching (in schools, studios, performing arts camps, community programs, etc.), teaching artistry, arts administration, arts education, or related field.
• Teaching experience working with various age groups in a variety of communities is preferred.
• Understanding and appreciation for the performing arts in all aspects with an interest in how the arts can support social-emotional learning.

Other Skills And Abilities

• This position requires availability and flexibility to cover staffing at any partner school on any weekday within the week.
• Ability to maintain flexibility with assignments and scheduling; some weekend and evening work may be required as needed.
• Must be able to drive a vehicle and possess reliable transportation to drive to and from community meetings and schools.

Computer Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software, including Office 365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
• Thorough understanding of Google Workspace.
• Ability to learn new software systems as needed.
• Familiarity with school building technology.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must be able to qualify for licenses and permits if required by federal, state, and local regulations during the course of employment.

• Must have a valid Nevada driver’s license and reliable transportation to drive to and from community meetings and schools
• Must submit and pass background checks for The Smith Center and for the Clark County School District (CCSD)

The base annual salary range for this full-time and exempt position is $46,380 plus benefits, including insurance plans as applicable. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and scope of responsibilities. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by key factors such as work experience, job-related skills, and relevant education and training.
