The Prince’s Trust has a small team of specialist English and maths tutors who work directly with our young people to develop literacy, language and numeracy skills.
This role will be based in our office in Belfast and will focus on Numeracy. The role will involve teaching in small groups and one-to-one, as well as providing training and support to staff and volunteers to enable them to provide better support to our young people in the area of Maths/Numeracy.
We work in partnership with other organisations and experience in managing projects in the field of numeracy would be an advantage. Experience in teaching functional skills at levels 1 and 2 would also be useful.
You must hold a full teaching qualification; a subject specialism at a minimum of Level 3 in a vocational area of Maths; English and Maths GCSE at grade C or above (or equivalent qualification) with substantial experience of teaching young people with a track record of good or exceptional teaching. You must also have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills and evidence of willingness to be flexible as travel may be required across the region. For more information on the required qualifications please follow this link Centre Information | OCN NI
If you have relevant experience teaching maths, particularly in Further Education, we would love to hear from you.
As part of the Delivery Team, you will have a broad focus, working in important areas such as Education (in partnerships with schools), Employment and Personal Development. We encourage cross-working across teams and focus areas. You must ensure that every young person we engage, progresses with an appropriate pathway of learning and development and one-to-one support. You will demonstrate best practices in how we work with young people in a safe way, to ensure we deliver maximum value for young people and partners.
To be successful in this role, you will be able to engage in challenges with optimism and resilience and be adaptive and flexible – embracing change and innovation.
We work with young people from every background, so we are passionate about building a diverse workforce that represents the young people we support. We, therefore, welcome applications from everyone who meets the essential criteria for the role. Your application will be a CV and a supporting statement.
Your supporting statement must provide evidence of how you have acquired and applied each of the essential skills, knowledge and experience criteria and if possible, each of the desirable skills, knowledge and experience criteria, outlined in the job description, in current and previous roles, or other scenarios.
Why we need LLN Tutors:
This year, we aim to help more than 50,000 young people, with three in four young people on our programmes, moving into work, education or training.
The young people we help face a range of challenges, such as unemployment, mental health issues or some have been in trouble with the law. Our job is to inspire and support young people, to help them reach their potential so that they can thrive and society can prosper.
We believe all young people should have the chance to succeed, and that young people are the key to a positive and prosperous future for all of us.
Perks for working at The Trust:

Our goal is to create an environment where everyone, from any background, can be themselves and do the best work of their lives.
We’re a Stonewall Diversity Champion and we are an employer that is Disability Confident. Our staff, volunteers and young people are supported by PT CAN (our Cultural Awareness Network), PT GEN (Gender Equality Network), PT DAWN (Disability & Wellbeing Network) and Pulse (LGBTQIA+ Network). The Prince’s Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
