We are also a provider of advice and support services to young people and adults in the Yorkshire and Humber area.

ESOL Tutor – no teaching qualification necessary but must be prepared to work towards a teaching qualification.

£23,230 to 26,260 pro rata per annum depending on qualifications.

An opportunity has arisen for a ESOL Tutor, within our Aspire2Work Team reporting to the Performance Manager for the Leeds Opportunity Centre.

The main objectives of the role are:

Plan and deliver knowledgeable and exciting lessons
Track the progress learners make from their starting point and in every lesson
Mark and provide feedback to learners within a week of submission
Support learners to achieve and realise their aspirational goals

You must have:

At least two years occupational competence in the agreed vocational areas that you will be teaching and assessing.
Be prepared to learn about awarding body framework requirements.
Able to design, deliver and assess training at different levels of learning
Previous experience working with young people (not essential)
Established varied labour market experience
A willingness to work towards a teaching qualification

POST TITLE: ESOL tutor

POST TITLE: Tutor/ Assessor – ESOL

The following information is furnished to assist staff joining the Company to understand and appreciate the work content of their post and the role they are to play in the organisation. However, the following points should be noted:

PRIME OBJECTIVES OF THE POST:

Responsible for providing delivery of a full range of vocational training in ESOL and support services associated with our contracted Programmes including, teaching and learning, assessment and learner support from Entry to Level 3, leading to further training, vocational pathways and employment opportunities.
Plan, monitor, support and train learners on our contracted programmes to ensure planned programmes are completed in a timely manner.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

SUPERVISION AND GUIDANCE:

Responsible to the Performance Manager.
Personal initiative is expected to be exercised, referring only complex problems or policy queries to the Performance Manager.

RANGE OF DECISION TAKING:

RESPONSIBILITY FOR ASSETS, MATERIALS ETC:

Confidential files held in relation to learners and providers
Consumable office items reference books, portable computer equipment and some audio/visual equipment.

RANGE OF DUTIES:

Train and teach learners the skills from your vocational area that they need to ensure they gain the relevant knowledge and skills that lead to vocational pathways and employment opportunities

Throughout the programme of assessment, training and support you will use learning materials that enhance learner’s practical and technical employability skills and prepare them for further employment and/or training and raise motivation and self-esteem.

Deploy a wide range of teaching and learner centred learning strategies to ensure:

The most effective learning, continuation, achievement and progression of learners by extending their knowledge and skills to enable them to move into further training and/or employment

The most effective use of teaching time and other resources

Contribute to the development of schemes of work, session plans and learning resources to support flexible learning strategies to meet the learning aims of learners

Contribute to the planning and scheduling process of both teaching, learning and assessment to ensure that learners gain the relevant knowledge and skills that lead to vocational pathways and employment opportunities

To undertake formal review of training design and delivery annually to ensure the effectiveness of the programme and facilitate continuous improvement.

Ensure full implementation of the Company’s Learning’s recruitment, induction and initial assessment phase activities for learners.

Initially assess learner skills and aspirations and identify needs and support required to produce and Individual Learning Plan, which is agreed with the learner.

Support learners to find suitable work experience placements which support their chosen career path and aspirations.

Work with the Performance Manager to arrange visits to learners in the workplace and assess them as part of their contracted programme to ensure the successful achievement of their programme in line with contractual requirements and targets.

Prepare, agree and review assessment plans with each candidate. Create learner portfolios to agreed target standards and ensure they are submitted on time.

Undertake continuous (formative) and summative assessment of learners in compliance with awarding body, and company requirements.

Undertake Health and safety vetting of employers/placements prior to a learner commencing in work placement and ensure the necessary paperwork is completed for each location and report any dangerous practices or equipment to management.

To carry out training needs analysis for employers to identify that standards and training processes are relevant to the learner needs and meet contract requirements.

Undertake monthly reviews to monitor performance against individual learning plans to support learner’s progress.

Ensure learners are registered with appropriate Awarding Body for NVQ and Functional Skills/GCSE

Establish, build and maintain relationships with outside agencies and employers.

Liaise with placement providers and Employers to ensure that standards and training processes are appropriate to their business needs and that on-the-job training and portfolio development is being completed to appropriate standards.

Responsible for meeting retention and achievement targets for learners.

Provide information and reports to management as directed.

To meet with other tutor/assessors and internal verifiers in order to ensure a standard approach.

Act in compliance with all course examinations, assessment and validation requirements to Awarding body and JCQ standards

To ensure daily contact is evident and recorded with learners who have not attended and support re-engagement.

Complete all necessary documentation as required by the company and contractual requirements including learner records, registers, reports and statistical data in accordance with audit requirements.

Provide on-going encouragement, guidance and support to learners to raise their confidence and self-esteem, ensuring all problems are resolved to increase learner retention and to help them achieve their goal

Provide job search support for learners or provide access to help learners achieve a place at College or on an Apprenticeship programme or secure Employment

Organise and manage specific regular external development activities (within an agreed budget) as part of the learner’s continuous development, confidence and motivation building

Attend regular centre, regional and company meeting when requested.

Where appropriate provide cover in the absence of other tutors/assessors.

Ensure that adequate health and safety arrangements are in place for learners in line with the procedures within the Company’s Quality Management System.

Ensure that effective communication structures are in place with other Aspire-i contracts and departments for the exchange of information on common or overlapping areas of work

Undertake promotional activities in line with the marketing strategy of the contracted programme as and when the business needs require it.

To undertake other duties consistent with the scope of the post and within the competence of the post holder as required
