The Natural Capital Accounting Coordinator (NCAC) supports the delivery of TNC’s ocean accounting programs, specifically environmental economic accounting and associated supporting tools and software. They lead project management and planning, stakeholder engagement, project governance and support monitoring, evaluation and reporting for TNC’s natural capital accounting calculator project. They may also support the delivery of other ocean accounting projects, such as blue bonds, as required.

The NCAC will lead an important natural capital accounting project for TNC Australia’s Oceans Program which will deliver a prototype natural capital calculator for use by government, the private sector and academia. The NCAC is responsible for project management and planning, government and stakeholder engagement, project governance, monitoring, evaluation and reporting. They will assist team members to undertake environmental modelling, research, spatial analysis and ecosystem service analysis as required to deliver the objectives of the project. Working as part of a national team, secondary functions include data processing, curation, analysis and reporting. They may also communicate and work with a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, scientists, business leaders, community groups and Traditional Owners.

The NCAC will assist with developing and managing budgets, monitor and measure project progress, conduct corrective action as necessary and communicate project status information to all stakeholders. They will also perform risk management, issue resolution, and conflict management, and collaboratively solve complex problems. The NCAC will work closely with team members of the Oceans Program in a team’s based management matrix including engaging with other business functions such as science, communications, business development and finance to achieve their project objectives collaboratively.

• Leads and supports project coordination and delivery for natural capital accounting projects including planning, procurement, permitting, implementation and reporting.
• Gain cooperation from outside parties to accomplish project goals.
• Financial responsibility may include working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, assisting with budget development, monitoring expenditure against budgets and assisting with fundraising.
• Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements, including all work, health and safety requirements.
• Under minimal supervision, makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and judgment.
• May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
• Supports environmental modelling, spatial analysis, software development and research.

• Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience in natural resource management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Relationship building experience to work closely with a variety of partners, i.e., community groups, government officials, scientists.
• Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
• Experience with communication via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
• Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, web browsers, etc.
• Experience in training.
• Must have valid driver’s license.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated high level of project management, planning and implementation.
• Experience writing project plans and project reports to a high standard.
• Experience working with environmental economic accounting, ecosystem services models or equivalent.
• Technical experience in environmental statistics, data analysis, GIS or spatial mapping.
• Knowledge and experience in marine conservation.
• Ability to explain conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences.
• 3-5 years’ experience in natural resource management, similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
