The National Archives Hiring for Education Officer Job at Richmond upon Thames, England Full Time

The Education and Outreach Department at The National Archives are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and talented educator to join our successful team. Working with original archival material, you will research, develop and deliver taught workshops for schools (from KS1 – KS5) both onsite and online; design and lead family sessions as part of our exciting Time Travel Club programme; and play a role in helping to steer and run our creative projects for young people.

In addition to this, you will also support the delivery and development of our growing SEND provision for schools and the growth of our CPD work with teachers. You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively across the department and to support the Outreach team with their delivery of community and regional programming.

The department has a commitment to increase our regional reach, as well as engage more diverse audiences. We are also continuing to explore lesser told stories and diverse histories through our programme. It is an exciting time for the Education service as provision is growing, supported by the addition of new purpose built learning spaces.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to:

• Have knowledge to degree level in a relevant subject.

• Hold a recognised teaching qualification.

• Have experience as a teacher at primary or secondary level within the last 3 years. Or have experience as a teacher in a heritage setting within the last 3 years.

• Have experience of using historical sources or archival material in a teaching environment, in order to deliver high quality learning experiences.

• Have lots of ideas, energy and enthusiasm

• Be an excellent communicator who can interact with people of all ages, needs and backgrounds.

• Be able to work on own initiative and have a flexible approach to work.

• Be an excellent team player.

• Have creative flair and imagination.

• Have good ICT skills.

Responsibilities

A combination of onsite and home working is available and applicants should be able to regularly travel to our Kew site to deliver onsite school workshops and other education events.

This is a full time post. However, requests for part-time working, flexible working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department.

Essential criteria:

Desirable criteria:

• A History degree.

• Experience of delivering or co-ordinating schools visits.

• Experience of delivering an outreach or family programme.

• Masters Degree level qualification in Education or experience of contributing to/ participating in a professional development programme.

• Experience of using learning platforms and remote teaching environments.

• Knowledge of the records held by the National Archives.

• Administrative experience.
