Montessori School Rochester is currently seeking Elementary Montessori Teacher/Guide

Position summary:

The Elementary Teacher will implement the curriculum in a safe, healthy and nurturing a classroom environment that supports each child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth and development.

• Facilitate classroom activities.
• Create engaging, age-appropriate lessons while holding true to the Montessori Model.
• Establish classroom management utilizing positive coaching.
• Encourage and assist in positive social interactions.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.

Experience and Education:

Prefered:

Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field

Secondary endorsements in area(s) of concentration (24 undergraduate credit hours in:

math, science, humanities, and language arts)

Ability and desire to teach secondary level math, science (occupations), language arts

and humanities (cultural studies, history)

AMI/AMS Elementary certification

NAMTA/AMI Orientation to Adolescent Training, OR the willingness to attend this training

Michigan teaching license or ability to obtain it through an alternative

Licensure program within 2 years of employment at The MSR

Criminal Background check

Considered Necessary for Success:

Demonstrated experience with curriculum development and standards-based alignments

A demonstrated understanding of and ability to articulate, develop and implement student evaluation and progress monitoring systems

Lead teaching experience with secondary students in a public or private school setting

Ability to guide in additional areas such as entrepreneurship, land-based activities, etc.

Open and willing to maintain authentic Montessori practice balanced along with the

requirements of the goal of setting high academic and social/emotional standards

Commitment to collaboration, integrity, and the intention in all interactions with students,

families, Head of School, and staff

Excellent rapport and communication with students, with a deep understanding and respect for this plane of development

Curiosity, drive, energy, and the value placed on lifelong learning

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Excellent organizational skills

Comfort in outdoor settings for hikes, overnights, and backpack trips

A sense of humor, flexibility, and tolerance

A commitment to The MSR’s mission, vision, and values
