The MINT, a vibrant community makerspace in Southwestern Vermont, seeks a dynamic STEAM Education Coordinator as we expand our programming for kids, families & teens.

About us
We provide our members access to tools and space to develop a hobby, try out entrepreneurship or grow a business. We also provide innovative STEM/STEAM programming for our family members, schools, afterschool programs, recreation centers, public libraries and more in our kids and family makerzone, The Boiler: Where STEAM Happens. Our programming is delivered both at our location and across the region using our Boiler Bus mobile programming model. We’re poised for even more growth, and our 5 year plan includes more than doubling our membership base, adding new shops and labs, increasing our programming offerings by at least 50%, growing our donor base and increasing the proportion of our yearly budget represented by planned giving, corporate sponsorships and grants.

The position
We are seeking a curious, playful, imaginative, creative and mission-driven individual who believes in the power of makerspaces to be drivers of community development, entrepreneurial change and STEAM learning as our new STEAM Educational Coordinator. The right person will embrace our diverse community and will possess interpersonal, organizational, and critical thinking skills along with the ability to make and maintain relationships with instructors, parents, learners aged 3-18, area programming providers, schools and homeschoolers. The SEC will coordinate all Boiler instruction at The MINT, primarily focused on STEAM programming for ages 3-18, but also assisting with MINT-based adult programming when needed. The SEC will also cultivate relationships with new schools, child care programs, advertise and schedule private classes and parties. This position is grant funded through Summer 2023 will require between 25-40 hours a week (days and weekends during the summer, afterschool hours and weekends during the school year) but full time work is possible, either through combining open positions or teaching classes at The MINT for additional hours.

Our ideal candidate

• Intellectually curious. There are no specific educational criteria for this position. We’re more interested in what you can do!
• Proven instructional and STEAM knowledge required.
• Broad knowledge of the current makerspace and educational environment, including knowledge about the childcare and school landscape in our region.
• Proficient in Google Suite; technologically curious, data and outcomes driven
• Strong social media skills (e.g., Facebook business, Instagram) and virtual communication tools (e.g., Zoom, Kahoot, Facebook Live) desired.
• Passion for working closely with makers, educators and parents with imagination, confidence, and enthusiasm.
• Warm, engaged, collaborative, flexible, and enthusiastic disposition; open-minded and receptive to feedback.
• Successful in cultivating positive, collaborative working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, Board members, members and funders as part of a coordinated team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak compellingly about The MINT’s mission.
• Resourceful and self-directed; pro-active and adept at anticipating organizational needs.
• Capacity to prioritize competing demands while remaining calm, positive, and detail-oriented.
• Experience participating in the direction, supervision, and performance management of support staff or volunteers.
• Rigorous standards for personal and professional integrity.
• Access to reliable transportation is a must, as the job requires local travel (within 30 miles of The MINT).

Responsibilities

• Educational programming: plan, coordinate and deliver educational programming at The MINT and at partner sites.
• Maintain logs of community members served
• Educational outreach, including developing innovative service models to reach all our target populations
• Outreach and coordination with other educational support organizations in our region
• Social media posts, media and marketing
• Monitor email, social media and reply or delegate during work hours
• Report to the MINT Board monthly
• Represent The MINT with personal appearances at regional meetings
• Financial record keeping and reporting for grant funded activities

Physical Requirements

• Frequent need to see, walk, sit, stand, talk, and hear.
• Ability to complete work while wearing a surgical grade mask, when required.
• Ability to pack and transport supplies, tools and equipment to remote sites for programming.

• Occasional need to bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
• Dexterity to perform data entry on a computer, laptop, iPad, or other electronic device.
• Visual acuity sufficient to read print in 8-point font.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 per hour
