Position Summary: The Lovett School, an independent K-12 day school in Atlanta, GA, seeks an Assistant Head of Upper School for Teaching and Learning for the Upper School to begin July 1, 2022. This person collaborates with Upper School department heads and Lower/Middle School counterparts, to ensure a robust and cohesive learning experience for students in keeping with Lovett’s Whole Child Education model and core values. This person will coach and support the professional development of Upper School department heads and teachers. Knowledge of and experience with 9-12 curriculum, different learning styles, and diversity, equity, and inclusion work is required. This 12-month position serves on the Upper School administrative team and reports to the Head of Upper School.

*Primary Responsibilities:

• Embrace and impart Lovett’s Core Values, K-12 Whole Child approach, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging efforts.

• Partner with Upper School department heads and administrative team to ensure 9-12 cohesion and alignment.

• Partner with Lower and Middle Schools to ensure K-12 alignment.

• Build capacity and support of department heads with a focus on faculty development, curriculum development, differentiation, interdisciplinary work, and data collection to inform curricular decision making.

• Coordinate with department heads and Head of Upper School to provide faculty support and accountability; provide one-on-one instructional coaching for Upper School teachers; mentor, support, and develop leadership among Upper School teachers; help facilitate teacher-to-teacher mentorship and coaching.

• Coordinate with Head of Upper School and Administrative Team to design and facilitate faculty meetings and additional in-house professional development opportunities to build teacher capacity in alignment with school priorities.

• Research best practices in all areas of curricula; research and align outside professional development with faculty needs and facilitate outside consultants.

• Oversee Upper School academic processes including grade reporting, registration, scheduling, and credit transfer; present, announce, and advertise opportunities, processes, and deadlines as needed for students, faculty, and families.

• Maintain and evaluate Upper School academic data and reporting structures.

• Serve as Global Online Academy (GOA) site director, helping with student enrollment, troubleshooting, and advising and promoting GOA professional development opportunities to Lovett’s faculty and staff.

• Support recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of new faculty.

• Teach one section of an Upper School class and serve as an Upper School advisor.

• Complete other duties as assigned by the Head of Upper School including, but not limited to, participating in the Upper School admissions process, serving on Upper School hiring teams, organizing academic student opportunities/assemblies, and participating in administrative team duties.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Masters degree in education or content-related field is preferred

• 7+ years of teaching and/or academic administrative experience in a school setting

• Experience with some of the following is preferred: instructional coaching, competency-based education, Understanding by Design, neuroscience and human development, and social-emotional education

• Experienced and relational leader who builds strong, trustful, positive relationships and who interacts joyfully with students, teachers, and families. Demonstrate a genuine love and optimism for Upper School students and a keen awareness of the gifts and needs of this age group

• Dedication to creating and sustaining an atmosphere of high expectation and high support

• Ability to collaborate effectively

• Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality of sensitive information

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication and organizational skills

• Ability to lead with curiosity and intellectual humility

• Comfort with technology and various forms of electronic communication

Pay: $90,000.00 – $100,000.00 per year
