The Instructor is responsible for planning and teaching an Online HSE class, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6-8PM, to adults and out-of-school youth, integrating student goals, and computer literacy. The Instructor will prepare students for all aspects of the high school equivalency test, including math, reading, writing, science and social studies. Additional responsibilities include initial and on-going intakes and assessment of students, education and career advising, and student outreach and recruitment in the greater Ware region. The position includes the evening hours, for the remote class, and daytime hours, in-person at The Literacy Project’s Ware site.
Additional responsibilities include recordkeeping, reception duties, responding to inquiries, and participating in the general upkeep of the site. In addition, the Instructor participates in The Literacy Project’s monthly staff meetings, weekly case management meetings, and staff development opportunities.
Desired qualifications include demonstrated knowledge and experience teaching HSE level curriculum to under-educated adults and youth, and newcomer and immigrant populations, in an online format, using a student-centered approach. Experience teaching math at the high school level is strongly preferred. Experience with lesson planning and curriculum development, career and college planning, job search, and computer literacy is desired. Applicant should possess group and community-building skills, knowledge of Ware area community resources, and be comfortable representing the agency in the community. Applicant must have a Bachelor’s Degree.
