ABOUT THE POSITION: The Tutor and Fellow Experience Manager will oversee all aspects of Human Resources support for our AmeriCorps Tutors and Leading Men Fellowship Program. This position works with the Director of People Experience and Organizational Culture to building strategies to improve the Tutor & Fellow experience and work culture. This position will manage human resources systems, processes, and policies that underpin the work done by The Literacy Lab’s AmeriCorps Tutors and Fellows. The Tutor & Fellow Experience Manager is a fulltime position and will be a part of The Literacy Lab’s Central Human Resources team.

ABOUT THE LITERACY LAB: The Literacy Lab is a fast-paced, national non-profit organization with a mission to provide children from racially and/or economically marginalized communities with individualized reading instruction, by utilizing the talents of AmeriCorps Members and Leading Men Fellows, to improve their literacy skills, leading to greater success in school and increased opportunities in life. We partner with school districts to add capacity in high-need schools to close the literacy attainment gap for children before third grade.

The organization currently operates in 9 regions: Metro Washington, DC; Greater Richmond, Hampton Roads, and Danville, VA; Baltimore, MD; Kansas City, MO; Milwaukee, WI; Atlanta, GA; Phoenix, AZ; Cincinnati, OH; and Western Massachusetts. Since 2009, The Literacy Lab has provided evidence-based literacy interventions to more than 30,000 children from marginalized communities to master early literacy skills. By embedding rigorously trained tutors in pre-K classrooms and elementary schools to tutor students of color from pre-K through third grade, The Literacy Lab strives to create a full six-year continuum of support for young readers.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The Tutor and Fellow Experience Manager will be responsible for the following:

• Advocates and acts as a voice for Tutors and Fellows by raising concerns to leadership as appropriate, analyzing data trend metrics, and taking action based on critical indicators.
• Collaborates with the Director of Learning and Development to create programs, training, and initiatives for Tutor and Fellow educational and professional development.
• Leads the administration and enrollments of benefits programs during Tutor onboarding and offboarding, and troubleshoots any issues that may arise regarding these benefits.
• Collaborates with regional teams to communicate the benefits that Fellows and Tutors will be receiving throughout their term of service.
• Process I-9 employment verifications by gathering the necessary identification documentation, inputting identification documentation into the HRIS system, and troubleshooting errors or inconsistencies to ensure timely compliance with I-9 regulations.
• Serves as the liaison for Fellows and Tutors in a number of capacities, including but not limited to: providing proof of employment, providing jury deferral support, and providing the necessary documentation for public assistance.
• Develop and maintain relationship with other community-based organizations to enhance the service experience of the Fellows and Tutors.
• Provides support and guidance to regional teams when handling reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
• Acts as a consultant to regional teams on corrective and disciplinary action.
• Updates and maintains Tutor and Fellow information in the HRIS system.
• Collaborates with the Compliance team to conduct and review background checks.
• Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, as well as AmeriCorps policies, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
• Other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & COMPETENCIES: While we will consider a broad range of backgrounds, the ideal candidate would have the following qualifications/experience:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related degree, or the equivalent amount of experience.
• AmeriCorps program experience or experience working with an education-focused nonprofit organization.
• Familiarity with employment laws (EEOC, DOL, FMLA, Title VII, ADEA, ADA, etc.)
• Experience conducting sensitive employee relations investigations with diplomacy, neutrality, and objectivity.
• Ability to exercise effective judgment with high integrity and an ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Growth mindset, drives connectivity, takes initiative, and proactive in impacting engagement
• Demonstrated proficiency with communication skills, influence, adaptability/flexibility, and building relationships.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Coaching, counseling, negotiating and conflict management skills
• Experience in using Google Suite, SalesForce, Paycom, Excel, Canva, etc is a plus PHR/SPHR SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification is a plus

WORK LOCATION: This position will ideally be based in one of The Literacy Lab’s regions (AZ, DC, GA, MA, MD, MO, OH, VA, WI).

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: The salary range for this position is 67,000 to 72,000. Benefits include a flexible work environment, 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees and 50% for dependents, employer-paid short and long-term disability, employer-paid life insurance, a 403b retirement plan, and 120 hours of paid vacation and 240 hours paid of mental health/sick time off.

WORK DEMANDS: This position may operate remotely with some out-of-town travel for departmental retreats, trainings, conferences, events, etc.
