Law and Standards (Legal Services) Senior Solicitor (Litigation) Uwch Cyfreithwyr (Ymgyfreitha) SCP 41-44 – £47,573 – £50,780 pa. Permanent/full time – 37 hours per week Newport City Council Legal Services has an excellent opportunity for a dynamic and experienced solicitor, barrister or chartered legal executive to lead its busy but friendly in-house litigation team. Positive, proactive and self-motivated, you will have excellent technical skills and a good level of experience in a number of the areas of work the team deals with, which include civil and criminal litigation, judicial and statutory review, town and country planning, employment law, environment law, housing law and social care law. You may have gained such experience in local government, elsewhere in the public sector or in private practice. You might already have some supervisory experience or it could be that this is your first senior role. In any event, you will have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills and demonstrate your aptitude for inspiring and motivating those working alongside you. You will have a willingness to embrace change and, in time, develop your own ideas about how your team can function efficiently and effectively. Local government legal work is varied and whilst at times it can be challenging, it is also frequently rewarding. There will be times when you need to work under pressure and balance conflicting priorities, however, you will be supported in doing this. You will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to your own professional development and a willingness to undertake training and develop new skills as required.
