The Wediko School based in Windsor, NH is seeking a School Guidance Counselor. The Wediko School Guidance Counselor works closely with Wediko personnel to identify and meet the social emotional needs of all students, as well as advocate for student specific plans and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of guidance counseling and transition planning as it relates to the transition from high school to adulthood.

The Wediko School Guidance Counselor is responsible for developing and supporting transition goals and activities, anchored in career exploration and community participation. This role also entails monitoring/reporting on student progress in these areas. The Wediko School Guidance Counselor works in conjunction with IEP teams to write and help implement transition plans. The person in this role will use their expertise to collaborate as part of the school leadership team and model professionalism and best practice.

Essential Functions

• Conduct informal transition assessments and help students identify job skills, prior work experiences, and independent living skills.
• Facilitate interest inventories and career investigations online
• Help students to understand the requirements necessary for careers of interest; and research future educational / training options.
• Facilitate exploration of post-secondary options: potential colleges / JobCorps/ technical certification programs, etc.
• Help students prepare applications, letters of recommendation, and other required documents and set up time tables for SAT/ACT test prep.
• Counsel students individually using various modalities including but not limited to: mind-mapping, family genograms, and student-centered planning charts.
• Works in conjunction with IEP teams to write and help implement transition plans.
• In conjunction with appropriate personnel, adhere to current state and federal special education regulations including: review of student files and IEPs, and monitoring IEP quarterly reports.
• Coordinate volunteer work opportunities and educational field trips to expose students to the world of work and community resources.
• Provide support to students and help them recognize the importance of attending classes and engaging in the Wediko program.
• Work directly with all students to help them meet their learning objectives and goals.
• Teach stress management techniques, time management techniques, and help students identify coping strategies so that they can be most successful and navigate daily stressors as well as crises as needed.
• Coordinate NH Vocational Rehabilitation Services referral process & meetings/activities.
• Collaborate with school administrators to complete transcripts and credit acquisition and maintain proper channels of communication with supervisors, school districts, parents and other members of the student’s team.
• Support students in advocating for their needs and help them to communicate with stakeholders.
• Organize and implement school wide spirit events and reinforce positive behaviors with activities, bulletin boards, inspirational quotes and strength-based incentives to foster a positive school culture and promote collaboration among staff and students.
• Spearheads initiatives to enhance school programing.
• Work with the Wediko School Principal and other school leaders to guide the vision and maintain the mission of the school.
• Maintain connections with statewide transition Community of Practice.
• Collaborate with other school personnel to support extended learning opportunities.

Monitor and Report on Student Progress

• Responsible for reporting on student growth, achievement, and challenges
• Assessing and monitoring short-term and long-term goals as well as assessing and communicating effectively about individual student curriculum as well as academic programing to students, teachers, teams, and parents
• Collaborate with parents/caregivers and other stake holders to help student work his program
• Prepare documentation for student progress meetings
• Attend student progress and IEP meetings and report on student progress

Support/Professionalism

• Complete paper work consistently, professionally, and in a timely manner
• Respond appropriately to supervisory requests and expectations for performance of job-related activities
• Support and help members of school and dorm teams
• Maintain professional working relationships with co-workers and administrators

Professional Development

• Maintain licensure
• Seek outside resources (e.g. workshops, professional seminars, continuing education)
• Take a leadership role in supervision and teacher academy as appropriate

Minimum Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Education, with NH School Counselor licensure
• Experience working with students who have emotional, behavioral and learning difficulties
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Flexible with responsibilities and schedule, adaptive to job needs
• Satisfactory completion of CPI Training required

Abilities Required

The position requires the ability to walk the rugged terrain of the Wediko School Windsor, NH campus, an active wooded setting. The ability to bend, hold and lift is also required as indicated by CPI behavioral management techniques.
