Summary
This position plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive nursing care to detainees/inmates while ensuring security requirements are met. As a member of the healthcare team, you will contribute to the implementation and evaluation of healthcare needs within the correctional facility.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Develop Nursing Care Plans: Under the supervision of an RN, you will assist in developing nursing care plans for detainees/inmates, ensuring their healthcare needs are met.
Conduct Assessments: Perform complete physical assessments and gather medical histories of detainees/inmates entering the correctional system, subject to client permissions. Refer medical problems to physicians for further evaluation.
Assist with Sick Call: Screen patients and perform minor surgical procedures, under physician guidance, during sick call sessions. Treat detainees/inmates within your professional capabilities and refer complex medical issues to the appropriate physician.
Implement Physician’s Orders: Ensure that physician’s orders are carried out accurately and promptly. Administer prescribed medications as instructed, utilizing your knowledge of drugs and therapeutics.
Monitor and Evaluate: Make regular observation rounds on patients, documenting symptoms, reactions, and progress in progress notes. any concerns or issues to management promptly.
Maintaining Security: Prioritize security while administering medications, staying vigilant to prevent drug hoarding and trafficking among detainees/inmates. Focus solely on healthcare responsibilities and avoid involvement in security aspects.
Document and : Maintain accurate and confidential medical records, documenting all interactions with detainees/inmates. Prepare scheduled and special s as required.
Compliance: Adhere to industry and company policies to ensure accreditation standards are met.
Additional Duties: Fulfill any other assigned responsibilities as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Education and Licensure: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and hold a current, unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state where the facility is located. Always keep a current copy of your license on file at the facility.
Experience: Two (2) years of direct work experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse is preferred.
Competence: Ability to perform crisis intervention, handle medical emergencies, conduct physical assessments, provide medical nursing care, and deliver psychiatric nursing care.
Independence: Capable of working independently and making nursing diagnoses without immediate supervision. Take appropriate action and provide follow-through treatment as necessary.
Computer Skills: Proficient in working with computers and using department-specific software.
