Summary
This position plays a vital role in the implementation and evaluation of healthcare services for detainees/inmates in a correctional facility. As a nurse, you will provide comprehensive care while adhering to security protocols.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Develop nursing care plans for detainees/inmates under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN).
Conduct thorough physical assessments and medical histories for all individuals entering the correctional system, if permitted by the client. Refer any medical concerns to the physician for further evaluation.
Assist physicians during sick call by screening patients and performing minor surgical procedures. Provide appropriate treatment within your professional capabilities, and refer complex cases to the physician.
Ensure implementation of physician’s orders and administer prescribed medications following the formulary guidelines. Utilize your knowledge of drugs and therapeutics in medication administration.
Conduct regular observation rounds on patients, documenting progress and ing any issues to management.
Maintain security during medication administration and remain vigilant about the potential risks of drug hoarding and trafficking among detainees/inmates. Focus solely on the healthcare aspects of your role.
Safely dispose of all used needles and syringes.
Prepare necessary s on a regular basis and as required.
Accurately document all interactions and medical records while maintaining patient confidentiality.
Adhere to industry and company policies to maintain accreditation.
Perform other assigned duties as necessary.
Minimum Requirements
Graduate of an accredited nursing school with a valid license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state where the facility is located.
At least two (2) years of direct work experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse is preferred.
Competence in crisis intervention, medical emergencies, physical assessments, medical nursing care, and psychiatric nursing care is essential.
Ability to work independently in making nursing diagnoses and providing appropriate treatment.
Proficiency in computer usage and relevant software.
