Statistical Consultants Wanted to Assist Graduate Students

Highly experienced statisticians in the social sciences needed to work as consultants for a dissertation and thesis coaching and consulting company that has been in business for 22 years. We are looking for candidates who are willing to build up to working 20+ hours per week for our organization.

The ideal candidate for this position is also capable and ready to:

• Provide one-on-one methodological and statistical consulting, guidance, mentoring, and direction to graduate students
• Teach graduate students how to use statistical software
• Assist with cleaning and preparing data
• Guide students through the process of interpreting and writing up their results
• Help graduate students translate their thoughts and ideas into scholarly writing
• Navigate the stressors of doctoral level writing while remaining productive and healthy
• Help graduate students learn and understand academic culture and scholarly writing conventions

**You will not be asked to ghostwrite as we do not offer this service.

Dissertation consultants are a special breed. They do more than review writing and provide feedback (although they do that too!). An ideal consultant provides top-notch academic support, but also possesses the following qualities in spades:

• Compassion and empathy for students
• Active listening skills
• Patience for students who are working through hard emotions
• Ability to help student move through social emotional challenges and get “unstuck”
• Enjoyment of teaching and connecting with students

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in the social sciences.
• Significant experience as a supervisor/mentor overseeing master’s and doctoral level students. 5+ years of experience is preferred.
• Strong background assisting graduate students with quantitative research methods and statistics. **Candidates who also have qualitative research expertise are preferred but it is not required.
• Evidence of quality research completed in the last 3 years (e.g., publications in peer reviewed journals, conference presentations, program evaluation reports, etc.)
• Proficient in APA style
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently
• Experience with SPSS is required.
• Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with students over time
• Maintain an understanding that flexibility is necessary when working with online students, and there is freedom in decision-making
• Ability to work up to 20+ hours per week

A dissertation consultant will also handle the following administrative capacities of their role which include:

• Researching and preparing teaching resources
• Communicating with students, through email, telephone, and Zoom meetings
