Summary
The Canadian Customs & Trade Consultant is responsible for providing guidance, services and support on compliance and regulatory matters both internally and to clients with a primary focus on Canadian duty recovery.
He/she would perform Consulting Services based on in-depth knowledge of HS Classification, customs rules/legislation, regulations, and CBSA initiatives.
Principal Accountabilities
Review of Clients dutiable HS codes to identify duty savings based on but not limited to reclassification, FTA’s, valuation, etc.
Provides clients and internal stakeholders with advice on customs compliance, regulations, and current trade initiatives.
Liaises frequently with CBSA, PGAs and other government departments, for information and with respect to Consulting audits, DAS’s, refunds, and develops ongoing relationships.
Supports sales team in engaging clients throughout sales cycle.
Primary work responsibilities include, but not limited to: Duty Recovery, Drawback Claims, Creating and Submitting National Customs Rulings, Tariff Classification and opinions, Database reviews
Qualifications Knowledge and Skills
Post-Secondary Graduate (College Diploma or University Degree) •
Minimum of 3-5 years of prior experience in a Customs Operations or Tariff Specialist role
Possesses Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation from Canadian Society of Customs Brokers (CSCB); US CCS, CTCS and CBSA Professional Status are assets.
Ability to set clear goals and achieve and measure results
Ability to develop solid relationships, to persuade and influence others, to motivate and mentor people
Possesses excellent speaking and presentation skills (telephone and face-to-face)
Possesses strong planning and organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate ideas clearly and concisely.
Excellent customer service skills: understands customer needs and how to satisfy them, cooperates with internal and external contacts
Ability to manage stress by being rational, flexible and exercising self-control.
Experience dealing with challenging situations in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to analyze data and information and utilize strategic thinking to develop solutions.
Possesses strong technical Skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel and Word)
Some travel may be required

This is a remote opportunity, open to citizens or permanent residents of Canadaand will require 10-20% Travel Post COVID
