The Opportunity

The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a PSL 5 Senior Finance Officer within Finance Branch.

DPS has a uniquely diverse workforce of approximately 1000 staff, working across a wide range of administration, trade, technical, customer service and professional roles to support the functioning of the Australian Parliament, its services to parliamentarians, visitors and the wider community.

The Corporate Business Operation (CBO) has been established as the central team to provide transactional services to DPS . The CBO’s aim is to standardise, consolidate and automate these transactional services to allow DPS to focus on core priorities.

In the role of Senior Finance Officer you will be responsible for undertaking work of a complex and or sensitive nature and perform a senior role within the team. You will also be required to assist in providing training and assistance to employees and users while maintaining high standards of financial control and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, financial policies and internal procedures.

Job Specific Requirements:

  • Knowledge in SAP and Concur (highly desirable)
  • The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance.

Duty Statement

Classification: PSL 5
Branch: Finance Branch
Section: Corporate Business Operations
Immediate supervisor: Financial and Business Operations Lead

Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the PSL 5 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Maintain high standards of financial control and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, financial policies and internal procedures

2. Prepare monthly reconciliations, variance reviews and monthly financial reporting

3. Prepare annual financial statements and assist throughout the audit process

4. Prepare monthly BAS returns and the annual FBT return

5. Provide advice and support to all staff on financial accounting matters.

Employees of DPS are required to be able, and to be seen to be able, to provide professional advice and services to all Senators and Members without favour or prejudice.

Salary

Currently, the salary range for this position is $78,913 – $84,661 per annum.


Conditions of Employment

Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:

  • Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.

  • Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.

  • Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
