The mission of The Camphill School is to create wholeness for children and youth with developmental disabilities through education, extended family living, and therapy so that they may be better understood, they may more fully unfold their potential, and they may meaningfully participate in life.

The Special Education Paraprofessional is a support staff position that assists students in the classroom with daily living skills, and educational, recreational, and cultural activities.

This position reports to the HR Administrator, and coordinates daily tasks with, the Classroom Teacher who supervises the classroom.

Responsibilities include:

· Direct support for students in the classroom as directed by the Classroom Teacher including:

· Assisting in preparation of instructional materials

· Providing supervised 1:1 support through activities based on IEP goals and objectives, and/or BMP goals

· Developing a friendly, professional relationship with the Classroom Teacher and other team members and staff

· Assist in all activities outside of the classroom as directed by the Classroom Teacher including:

· Taking long walks through the woods with the student

· Supporting the student at meal times as directed by the Daily Living Skills Instructor

· Accompanying the student at cultural events, assemblies, seasonal celebrations, field trips, etc.

· Assisting the student on and off the bus at the beginning and end of each school day

· Assisting the student in cleanup tasks and light housekeeping chores such as folding laundry, and occasional dishwashing

· Providing recess supervision

· Remaining with the student if removal from group is necessary

· Assist in self-care, independent living, and social communications skills in daily life including:

· Aiding in transitions

· Assisting with practicing hygiene

· Assisting with toileting when necessary

· Supervising rest hour for designated students

Qualifications:

· Experience in caring for others

· Reliable transportation

· Interest in special education

· Kind personality and temperament

· Ability to work as a team member

· High school diploma required. Associate degree or higher preferred

· PA State Police, PA Child Abuse History, Arrest/Conviction Report, Commonwealth of PA Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release, FBI Fingerprinting and TB clearance required

Pay: $15.00 – $19.00 per hour
