The British Museum is seeking a Education Manager: Samsung Digital Learning Programme to join the Learning and National Partnerships department. As a British Museum Education Manager for the Samsung Digital Discovery Centre (SDDC), you will have responsibility for the creation, development, and delivery of a range of digital activities for our school, family, and young audience programmes. You’ll be planning and managing exciting digital learning projects and have oversight of delegated project budgets. As part of a large supportive learning team, you’ll also be contributing to departmental and team meetings, offering line management support to your direct reports, and supporting the wider Samsung delivery team to meet our overarching shared sponsor aims and objectives.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

• To maintain the reputation of the Samsung programme as a cutting-edge resource for digital learning in the heritage sector.
• Nurture and manage the Museum’s SDDC offer for school, family, and young audiences, including direct and delegated line-management and administration of the Samsung team.
• Work closely with your co-lead Education Manager to provide consistent support, advice, and guidance to the delivery teams and ensure key projects, targets and objectives are delivered on time and budget to an agreed high standard; contributing to periodic reports as and when required.
• Project management responsibility of sponsored projects, as delegated by and in agreement with the Head of Schools & Young Audiences and Co-lead SDDC Education Manager. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Coordination, development, management, delivery, and evaluation of projects.
• Recruitment and management of external contractors and developers where required.
• Liaison with education and interpretation staff, curators, and other museum staff.
• Ensure all programming and projects are properly risk assessed, meet equality, diversity and accessibility requirements and all relevant Museum policy and procedures are always followed.
• Provide additional short-term support and/or cover for co-lead SDDC Education Manager and Learning Producer or Family Facilitator colleagues as and when required.
• Manage and nurture partnerships with external and internal stakeholders relevant to the Samsung programme and schools and young audiences’ team.
• Ensure all Samsung staff receive and undertake mandatory training with HR Training Team.
• Support the recruitment of staff to meet the needs of the Samsung programme.
• Some weekend work will occasionally be required, for which overtime or time-in-lieu will be provided.

Person Specification:

• Specific technical/professional skills & experience: demonstrable experience of developing and delivering digital learning programmes and resources for target audiences; promotes professional standards across their work area and monitors their implementation; applies knowledge/skills to identify and deal with problems in area of expertise; experience of Project Management theory and practical skills; demonstrable learning theory knowledge and practical face to face delivery skills to primary, secondary & further education groups and families and young people; knowledge of current National curriculum (England, Wales, NI, Scotland) and current trends/challenges across the sector.
• Work experience: heritage sector learning role with relevant experience of digital programme development and delivery for schools and/or family audience; with clear examples of people, project and budget administration and management skills OR school/freelance professional with demonstrable relevant experience in creative digital learning programme development, delivery, and management; and transferable people, project and budget administration and management skills.
• Specific managerial skills: plans, organises, and optimises work/resources of self and others within the team to achieve medium to long term objectives; management experience of the commissioning of work packages from external suppliers; management experience of smaller-scale or departmental projects; management experience of delegated budget management; management experience of delegated delivery teams, contracted freelances, suppliers, and performers.
• Specific interpersonal skills: imaginative and engaging verbal & non-verbal communicator; active listening skills; professional level of influencing and negotiating skills; good independent & team working problem solving skills; methodical decision-making skills; effective assertiveness; commitment to team values and wellbeing.
