The Big Issue Hiring for Head of Finance Job at London, England Full Time

Big Issue Invest (BII) is the social investment arm of The Big Issue. BII helps prevent poverty and creates opportunities for communities by providing finance, from unsecured loans to equity investment, to sustainable social enterprises, charities and ventures. Big Issue Invest provides a variety of financial products for social impact organisations from £50,000 patient debt, up to £2.5 million debt and equity financing options. Funding for these activities is provided by a mixture of standard borrowing, grant income, corporate engagement and Limited Partnership Funds.

This role will report into the CEO, and is offered on a permanent full-time basis, with hybrid working, and the option of being based in the London or Birmingham office when required to travel in.

The Head of Finance will be responsible for owning the delivery of part of the overall financial strategy of the organisation, ensuring financial systems, processes and policies meet the needs of all those who rely on the services and outputs of the Finance department. You will have accountability for all management accounting, financial accounting and cash flow functions across the 5 legal entities (one of which is FCA-regulated) within the Big Issue Invest Group.

The role offers an opportunity to develop organisation-wide strategic thinking and manage a small team. In this management position, the Head of Finance will present to the various boards and committees within the Big Issue Invest Group, initially managing three direct reports – an Assistant Accountant and two investment support staff.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Finance, and will be fully qualified. You must have experience dealing with complex cash flow structures, and strong financial accounting skills. You will have experience of managing cash across multiple bank accounts, and thrive when directing multiple workflows, both internal and external. You will have significant experience producing management accounts for a variety of stakeholders, and be able to update/modify and improve existing reports.
