Within the CSG, the Human Exploration and Space Flight (HESF) Division supports our NASA customer in all aspects of human space flight. The primary function of this position is to provide support to the Johnson Space Center (JSC) Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) Test Team who provides the HITL testing function for the HQ Strategy and Architecture Office (SAO) and is matrixed to the Extravehicular Activity (EVA) and Human Surface Mobility Program (EHP) Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) Integrated Testing and Facilities (ITF) team.
This position will support various NASA Exploration Moon to Mars Surface Mobility Programs and help facilitate SEI initiatives across the Artemis portfolio at Johnson Space Center.
This is a full time position based in Houston that allows for an estimate of 4 days of on-site work and 1 day of teleworking.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Provide technical expertise for HITL testing and develop products to communicate work and results with collaborators.
  • Conceive, plan, and conduct work in unexplored areas where there is little or no precedent to guide experimentation and/or new techniques and approaches need to be devised.
  • Develop mission products in support of the mission-class analogs and develop products to plan the missions, organize the work of the various collaborators, aid in mission execution, and communicate results post-mission.
  • Examples of support include:

    • Generating integrated overall test s
    • Performing data collection and analyses
    • Developing test study designs with robust data collection methods and protocols
    • Identifying stakeholder objectives and tracing them to strategic and programmatic questions, gaps, and risks
  • Participate in NASA, Artemis and EHP Program Office forums
  • Develop periodic status s and presentations
  • Coordinate requirements, technical objectives, interfaces, standards, issues and findings with subject matter experts and collaborators.
  • Perform other duties for the customer as required
What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or science
  • 8 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a system engineering and/or program management environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NASA program life cycle
  • Good scientific method and writing skills: Ability to effectively utilize oral and written communication to express technical concepts and recommendations to personnel at all technical and managerial levels
  • Ability to work in a quick-paced, small core team that leads technical discussions across a large technical community and influences teams across the NASA enterprise
  • Excellent presentation and communications skills, including development of and briefing of decision packages and complex information in a succinct and polished manner.
  • Experience working across diverse teams and many different engineering subject areas
  • Proficient in creating project scope with vague info
  • Ability to coordinate team activities for complex operations
  • Ability to justify and/or defend sensitive matters
How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • Advanced degree in engineering or science
  • An academic background with significant experience in research, analysis, and thesis development would be very beneficial.
  • The ability to be qualified as a diver is nice to have
  • A background in operations/training is strongly encouraged
  • Extensive background and portfolio in human spaceflight
  • Requirement development experience
  • Experience with NASA testing initiatives
