This is the job

As our Senior Auditor for finance, you will be responsible for planning, managing and delivering audits, project reviews and other third-line of defence assurance work, to support development and delivery of the annual internal audit plan and provide a sound opinion to the business on the effectiveness of the internal governance, risk management and control systems.

We are looking for a qualified professional with a strong finance background who can lead the GIA assessment of financial controls and processes across the business in respect of financial controls, financial reporting, and technical accounting matters.

What will I be doing?

• Delivering individual internal audit assignments, end to end, working with a high degree of autonomy.
• Delivering advisory internal audit activity, in relation to relevant programmes and projects. This may include providing ongoing / real-time assessments in respect of key change projects, adding significant value to programmes with a key objective to help management continually improve governance and internal control.
• Review and provide timely third-line assurance input to key programmes and projects from a financial control perspective.
• Review and challenge and evaluate accounting documentation, management accounts, financial data, and other information and analysis as required.
• Maintain regular stakeholder engagement with key people across the finance function.
• Completing issues follow-up work to validate the effectiveness of the actions taken by management, to address previously raised internal audit issues and to mitigate risk to an acceptable level.
• Adhering to the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors’ Professional Standards and the AA’s internal audit methodology.
• Self-identifying training needs to ensure knowledge of internal audit standards is up-to-date and develop soft skills, such as relationship building as well as technical and industry knowledge.
• Provide knowledge, input and support to the rest of the Group Internal Audit team as required to help financial control and accounting aspects are appropriately considered in all assignments.

What do I need?

Capability, Knowledge and Experience:

• Proven post-qualification experience audit role undertaking a range of audit assignments.
• Strong technical financial experience and knowledge
• Excellent stakeholder management and relationship building skills
• In depth understanding of the concepts of risk, controls and governance
• Good analytical skills; a logical, structured approach; sound judgement and intellectual curiosity to understand and analyse a range of different business and commercial scenarios.
• Experience of working within an FCA regulated business would be advantageous, particularly within the General Insurance industry.
• Excellent communication skills – both written and oral

Education and Qualifications:

• Relevant professional qualifications would include ACA, ACCA or other equivalent

• Ability to proactively manage a portfolio of work, and to balance the demands of maintaining high quality work and delivering to deadlines.
• Has an enquiring mind and tenacity, whilst maintaining objectivity.
• A “team player” – someone who others like to work with, and who supports the team but who is also comfortable working on their own.
