Our Strategy & Finance team

The teams across Strategy & Finance provide a wide range of services that guide and empower our business – from risk, to treasury, investor relations, taxation, corporate accounting, internal audit and more. About the role

We currently have an exciting new opportunity for a talented individual to be part of a dynamic Treasury team within Strategy & Finance in the role of Treasury Analyst. As Telstra progresses its T25 strategy now is a very exciting time to join the Treasury team as we face into a number of company wide strategic initiatives. You will work with a friendly, high performing team which is supportive of flexible working arrangements and focused on learning and development opportunities for career progression.

As a Treasury Analyst, you will support the Manager, Treasury Accounting, the broader Treasury team and ultimately the Treasurer, primarily in the following areas: (a) accounting for all Treasury transactions in accordance with applicable accounting standards which includes the preparation of reconciliations and analysis to support the monthly Treasury financial results and the statutory half year and full year Treasury reporting; and (b) to support Treasury functions and initiatives as required including banking, funding and cash management processes; M&A work; upgrades of the Treasury Management System (TMS); front office dealing activities (money market, funding and hedging) and back office settlement functions.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Working with the Senior Treasury Accountant in the production of monthly accounting results for Treasury
• Production of reconciliations and as part of the month end accounting process for Treasury; this will likely include, but is not limited to, reconciliations of finance costs, intercompany transactions and borrowings and derivatives
• Assisting with the preparation of Treasury taxation submissions including PAYG and BAS monthly
• Assisting the Senior Treasury Accountant with financial analysis and reporting of results for presentation to the Treasurer and wider Treasury team
• Supporting the half year and full year accounting close for Treasury including liaison with external auditors, assisting with preparation of the relevant disclosures under AASB 9 and AASB 7, and other reconciliations and analysis as required
• Provision of active support and contribution into Treasury projects
• Compiling and updating procedure documents as required
• Monitoring compliance with applicable Treasury policies
• Understanding and documenting Treasury transactions which impact other business units to ensure correct accounting practices at a Group level
• Developing relationships with other key stakeholders across the organisation, primarily Corporate Accounting, Taxation Units and M&A to embed strong lines of communication
• Creating a positive working environment for colleagues within the Strategic Finance group to ensure it remains an employer of choice both internally and externally.

About You

To be successful in the role, you will be CPA or CA qualified and bring the following skills and experience:

• Strong accounting skills and knowledge of the accounting standards. Understanding of specific accounting and disclosure requirements applicable to financial instruments reporting (primarily AASB 9 and AASB 7) would be looked upon favourably
• Some knowledge of Treasury transactions, including borrowings (e.g commercial paper, bank loans and bonds) and derivative instruments (e.g interest rate and cross currency swaps, forward foreign exchange contracts)
• Knowledge of Hedge Accounting desirable
• Strong Microsoft excel skills
• Ability to work effectively under tight reporting deadlines, showing attention to detail and a strong personal commitment to producing quality work output
• Strong task focus with clear ownership of deliverables
• A team player, able to work proactively within a team or independently
• Willingness to step outside comfort zone to accept new challenges
• Flexible working style which adapts to changing work priorities
• Ability and willingness to seek continuous improvement and professional development
• Treasury Management System (TMS) experience is advantageous but not essential.
