Organizational Description: Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center (TEL HI) is a nonprofit organization which provides services and advocacy for residents of northeast San Francisco. Founded in 1890 by Alice Griffith and Elizabeth Ashe, TEL HI provides opportunities for individuals and families to enrich their quality of life. Focusing on low to moderate income children, youth, families, and seniors, we create and strengthen community bonds, provide health and wellness programs, and broaden education and cultural experiences. Program services include but are not limited to: Infant Toddler and Preschool at 2 locations in San Francisco: 660 Lombard Street & 188 Pierpoint Lane; Infant Program (3-20 months), Toddler Program (21-36 months), Preschool (2 ½ to 5 years), After School Academy (K-5th grade), Francisco Middle School Program (6th-8th grades), Galileo Academy of Science & Technology (9th-12th grades), North Beach Chinatown Beacon Center, Youth Employment Services (YES), Senior Programs and Community Organizing.
Early Childhood Education Programs: The TELHI Early Childhood Education programs provide a State-licensed, full-day program for children 3 months to 5+ years of age. Our goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that encourages physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development through a developmentally age appropriate curriculum. Our philosophy is child-centered, rather than adult directed. Curriculum is realized through structuring the environment into interest areas, the planning of program activities to meet each child’s individual needs, and the opportunity for active participation rather than passive observation. Children participate in developmentally age appropriate activities that are designed to develop their social skills, enhance their fine and gross motor sills, encourage creative learning, and teach pre-literacy skills and Kindergarten readiness.
Position Requirements: Minimum qualifications for the ECE Site Supervisor position include: a BA Degree with 12 semester units in core classes such as
Another 12 ECE/CD, 2 adult supervision units, 6 specialized units in infant/toddler, 3 units in Admin/supervised field experience and 4 to 5 years work experience in a supervisory role. This position requires a Program Director Permit or the ability to obtain the permit during the 90 day probationary period, pass the criminal background clearance and other required paperwork. Program Specific Responsibilities:
The ECE Site Supervisor works under the supervision of the ECE Program Director and in collaboration with other head teachers to design, implement, evaluate and enforce a culturally and developmentally age appropriate program for all children. The ECE Site Supervisor is responsible for the overall day-to-day operation of the center, implementing program policies and procedures, monitoring and ensuring that all regulations and requirements for licensing are met and maintained.
· Demonstrates abilities to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment with excellent verbal and written communication.
· Maintains a strong working relationship with the agency’s management, teaching teams and families.
· Provides supervision, guidance and trainings to interns, teaching staff and volunteers; Conducts performance evaluation for teaching staff according to TELHI policies and procedures.
· Ensures high quality classroom standards including program assessment and monitoring of services.
· Conducts team meetings, case reviewed conferences, and consultation meetings which include: written agendas and meeting minutes.
· Ensures daily learning areas to meet the standards of program’s curriculum and ECERS/ITERS/CLASS/Teaching Pyramid requirements.
· Works with classroom staff to set goals and develops different methods to improve classroom operations during the bi-weekly team meetings.
· Provide educational activities ideas for teachers across the general areas of gross and fine motor, imitation, social responsiveness, exploration, self-help, competence, and language, emotional and perceptual cognitive development using weekly activity plans or individual program plans.
· Supervise recruitment as well as hiring, training, and evaluation of program staff, to assure TELHI has a qualified and professional staff that meets all state, and local standards.
· Perform as a team leader and develop team-thinking skills that include reflective thinking and critical evaluation to ensure compliance with all required regulations.
· Intervene with suggestions and corrective measures when co-workers are displaying practices that are not appropriate.
· Assists in the monitoring of all licensing requirements and recommends a plan of actions to ensure requirements are met; Consults with ECE program director prior to implement the corrective actions.
· Works collaboratively with all Head Teachers to ensure classroom teaching plans are meeting the program’s philosophy and goals.
· Collect data from child assessment (DRDP), MOCHA, 1Core system to develop data analysis; twice per school year.
· Conduct parents survey, analysis survey data and develop quality improvement plan.
· Coordinates field trips and special events.
· Required to perform the responsibilities of a Head Teacher in the classroom when needed.
· Ensures required paperwork and reports are submitted in timely manner; Reviews children’s files (3 times per school year) to make sure all required documents are submitted.
· Develops, maintains, and reviews a daily system of classroom communication to staff and parents to ensure clarity and consistency; Makes sure the display of each classroom’s project-approached activities is routinely updated.
· Practices and ensures that food service guidelines, including nutritional components of meals served, meet the established written plans.
· Responsible for providing or coordinating coverage for absent staff.
· Maintain center inventory of supplies and teaching materials.
· Monitors center environment and proactively takes actions to ensure the center is clean, presentable to clients, and meeting required codes.
· Enter children attendance/meal count to ensure the data is accurate.
· Maintain confidentiality of all child and family records and completes family contact notes.
· Assist with enrollment at peak time of enrollment period.
· Serves as a liaison with TELHI leaders to support TELHI fund raising events.
· Able to bend and lift a child (up to 50 lbs.) when needed as well as manage children in outdoor activities.
Performs other duties as assigned by the ECE program director.
