Software Developer – Operations Software Support

Position Overview

The Operations Software Support role will develop and maintain software tools for the operations group within the GCI business (Gas Chromatograph (GC) and System Integration (SI)).

Existing software programs have been developed over time using Visual Basic (Excel), Visual Basic Studio, C# Windows Application, and Office 365 power app programming systems.

Software tools in cases may reside or interface with database, quotations, and / or ERP systems candidate must be proficient in understand interfaces / linkages clearly.

Need to be able to take an inventory and pricing list and create a usable materials inventory system that can be accessed by internal and external personnel.

Must be able to understand the scope of the project, design the system and then program the solution.

Tool maintenance may include : product BOM updates, adding or improving functionality, resolving path / linkage issues, troubleshooting errors seen by users, etc.

Candidate must be comfortable in communicating tool changes to global organization. Candidate must be highly detailed and able to check / debug own work.

New tool development will be a focus as well. Automation improvement ideas will be presented by operations team members candidate must be able to determine scope and execute per plan (prioritizing as needed with Solutions Manager).

Expectation is that the candidate will also work closely with operation teams including GC engineering, and GC methods, SI Engineering identifying additional automation tools that may enhance operations team output or make team members more efficient.

A large portion of software tools support the GC product. Candidate must have strong technical background capability in understanding product features / options clearly working closely with product engineers & chemists.

Responsibilities

The role is responsible for development & maintenance of new and existing software tools for the operations organization.

Required Knowledge / Skills, Education, and Experience

It is required for the candidate to have a BS Degree in Computer Science / Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics.

Candidate must have strong Visual Basic (Excel), Visual Basic Studio, C# Windows Application, and Office 365 power app programming skills.

Programming is currently thought to be VB. If another programming language is identified by the candidate it could be used

Candidate must have strong knowledge of MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) & SAP

Will be required to work at the Houston office and not at a client site.
