OVERVIEW

This position is responsible for executing daily commodity risk management processes in Europe, while providing support for daily commodity processes in North America. These commodity processes reside within the activities conducted by the Global Sugars Group, Risk and Finance functions of ASR Group. This is a great role for expanding one’s knowledge of commodity markets and the underlying instruments. The individual will work directly with a team of 5 – 6 Risk Team members, plus personnel from Global Sugars and Finance on a daily basis.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The core element of this role involves the validation of all commodity transactions and price curves, ensuring that they are captured accurately in the risk systems and that risk reports are accurate and fairly represent the commodity and currency positions of the company.

The commodity transactions fall in the following areas:

• Raw sugar and direct consumption transactions.
• Freight and logistics transactions.
• Foreign currency transactions.
• Energy transactions.
• Futures, options, swaps and other derivatives related to the above.

In each area, the daily processes involve:

• Prepare daily and weekly risk reports that may include position reports, limit reports, MTM and P/L reports, strategy reports, transaction reports and summary reports.
• Provide transaction and information support to commercial and finance personnel.
• 3rd party validation that all transactions have been captured in the system properly.
• Validate that all sugar, freight, currency and energy price curves have been captured in the system properly.
• Validate that melt and sales forecasts have been captured in the system properly and are up to date.
• Validate that currency forecasts have been captured in the system properly and are up to date.
• Validate that freight assumptions have been captured in the system properly and are up to date.
• Validate that FFA and bunker transactions have been captured in the system properly.
• Validate the reasonableness of daily margin calls.
• Ensure data and position reports reconcile to other company reports including trader position and flash reports, IBP forecasts, accounting results, etc…

In addition to the daily processes, this role is expected to:

• Assist and support other commodity risk analysts.
• Assist with compliance reporting requirements.
• Assist with testing of periodic risk system changes and upgrades.
• Assist with market lessons learned training to commercial, risk and finance personnel.
• Assist with the planned implementation of a new SAP CTRM system.

This role will require close coordination with Global Sugars, Risk and Finance personnel, as well as with personnel in adjacent processes such as sales, supply chain and IT. Relationships will be very important in fulfilling the job responsibilities.

This position is not just about the numbers. Of critical importance, this role must listen to and understand the strategies and day-to-day commercial activities that are occurring in order to place the transaction activity in context and ensure fair and accurate risk reporting.

WORK EXPERIENCES

• Entry level experience as a commodity risk analyst is desired but not required

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Management Information Systems or similar area of study.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

• No direct reports.

• Strong interpersonal communication skills with commercial and finance personnel.
