The College Counselor will provide guidance and leadership in the college admissions process and guide students and their parents through the development of post-secondary plans by counseling students in the college application and selection process; focusing on identifying student goals and expectations; Ideal candidate has proven experience of 3+ years of experience working with US universities. Is Fully Bilingual, with the ability to communicate verbally and fluently in English. Ideal candidate must have excellent writing skills in English.
· Provide guidance/resources and teach tools to navigate college search and application process
· Guide and educate students and their parents/guardians through the college admissions and application process including financial aid or scholarship possibilities.
· Follow up as appropriate via email, telephone, and/or video-conferencing
· Generate a school wide college preparation/awareness plan
· Guide students and others in understanding and utilization of the college admission data management system
· Handle incoming inquiries and requests and prepare written responses to routine inquiries
· Maintain strong working knowledge of colleges/universities, which includes making regular visits
· Stay current on higher education changes
· Understand the college admission process at a variety of institution types and selectivity levels
· Work effectively one-on-one with students and be able to address small or large gatherings of people to discuss the college admission and research process
· Write detailed school recommendations for members of the senior class in collaboration with the Secondary School Principal and follow up/forward document submission, e.g., recommendation letters, transcripts, school report
· Supervise students in all College Board account setups and registrations
· Support students in the selection and application of summer programs
· Serve as a liaison, and school recommender for scholarships,
· Update social media posts on college admissions, school activities, resources, etc.
· Attend college tours, traveling and representing the school on stateside campuses
· Conduct yearly student checkout
· Keep office area neat, tidy, and professional at all times
· Maintains an open-door policy where students, teachers, and parents feel welcome to College Counseling Center
Qualifications:
· B.S. or B.A. degree required; Master’s degree preferred
· An understanding of diverse constituencies and commitment to the TASIS Dorado mission
· Excellent writer, editor, and communicator through all mediums
· Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in college counseling
· Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational, time management, and personal skills
· Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels (students, parents, teachers, administrators, and college admission reps); the ability to work collaboratively and proactively
· Proven track record as an independent and goal-oriented manager with a dedication to meeting deadlines and high standards of performance
· Demonstrated integrity, warmth, flexibility, confidence, a positive outlook and a willingness to assist beyond the role
